Getting back into the grind of work life after a relaxing holiday can be tricky. While the computer screen begs for your undivided attention, you may find yourself gazing off into the distance dreaming about that space where you can indulge in a little downtime.
Now, there’s no way I could afford the space or money to add any of these luxurious spaces to my two-bedroom apartment– but a girl can dream right? A place where you can leave the world behind and attend to more important things, like soaking in a giant bubble bath while enjoying a breath-taking view.

1. A yoga room
Ommm yes, a light-filled yoga room is exactly where I’d like to be right now. While it’s easy enough to lay down your yoga mat just about anywhere around the house and greet the morning sun, having an entire room dedicated to it makes this space dreamy. This yoga room was inspired by a grand tour around Europe mixed with a study of Asian aethetics. Its decor is simple with a few throw cushions and cheerful house plants that add extra zen to the space.
TIP: The indoor-outdoor style of this yoga room is one of its most unique features. Open up the space with a floor-to-ceiling window to let the light and fresh air flow through and be one with nature.

2. A wine cellar
Need a place to stash your wine collection? Not just any old place, but a temperature controlled room that’s tailor-made for your precious bottles.
An at-home wine cellar is one of the ultimate statements of extravagance. The owner of this home in Nashville has made her wine cellar one of the main focal points of the house. The blue light showcases each bottle and the round timber spheres add a touch of contemporary warmth.
TIP: For your rarest bottles, give them pride of place in a spot that separates them from the rest. In this cellar, the owner has displayed her most prized wine in boxed cabinets.

3. An infinity pool
Can you see yourself diving into this stunning infinity pool by Aloha Pools on a 35-degree day? Splashing around for hours overlooking Australia’s breath-taking countryside is definitely the ultimate way to beat the heat.
In a recent poll, a dream-worthy pool proved to be Houzzers most sought after addition, with the added perk of a cabana boy, please!
TIP: Infinity pools look best in outdoor spaces with incredible views, while the drop effect is perfect for homes on hills.

4. A home library
If you’re a class-A bookworm, you will find an at-home library the ultimate dream space. A room where you can kickback, relax and delve into the world of your favourite author.
This library in Manhattan belongs to a music critic who has made it her own with her impressive collection of hardbacks and vintage finds. With a room like this, I would probably never watch TV again!
TIP: Adding a comfy chair to your home library makes the room even more inviting and easier to spend hours in.

5. A tricked-out garage
Grease monkeys will love this dream space – a tricked-out garage where you can tuck in your priceless car. Forget the days of inching into a tin shed, a mammoth-sized garage will have you doing burnouts.
This garage belongs to a collector of antique cars. The solid marble floors and open space made this garage the perfect place to showcase his priceless collection.
TIP: The garage doesn’t have to be solely reserved for cars either, you can transform it into a spacious office, a creative studio, or even a games room. Read about the possibilities here.

6. An outdoor cinema
We all love a good movie, but sometimes going to the cinema is just a pain. Lining up for a ticket only to find out it’s sold out. Fighting the urge to shush strangers who feel the cinema is the best place to catch-up. I once sat through The Hunger Games having to listen to a woman next to me whistle the theme song on and off for two hours.
The solution? Set up an outdoor cinema. Watching your favourite film on a balmy night outside with only the people you approve of is definitely something worth dreaming about. This house boasts the ultimate entertainer’s space. By installing a built-in screen, it takes movie night to a whole new level.
TIP: You don’t need to be a squillionaire to watch movies in your backyard. My friend once hosted an outdoor movie night with a rented projector and hung sheet. It was the perfect way to celebrate summer.

This home has devoted an entire room to wall climbing with the added safety of padded flooring that all budding Spidermen will want to practise on.
TIP: Climbing walls work best in houses with tall ceilings, or even outdoors on the side of the house.

8. A backyard escape
Everyone needs some alone time. Locking yourself in your bedroom, or even going for a walk can normally do the trick, but collecting your thoughts in your own sanctuary out the back seems like a much better way to have some ‘me’ time.
This backyard escape by Backyard Room doubles as a home office amongst the garden’s leafy foliage.

9. A tennis court
Realistically, tennis courts take up a huge amount of space and are a very expensive addition to a backyard – but you’re dreaming right? So how about a hit of tennis out the back on a hot summer night? No need to book a court, just grab your racket and some balls and pretend you are playing to take home the Australian Open trophy.
TIP: With a court like this, you could host your own Australian Open at home. Invite your friends over, wear your best tennis outfits and pretend to be Sharapova and Federer for the day.

10. A craft room
Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” If this is true, dedicating an entire room to your creativity may help you retain those artistic traits.
Creative spaces can range from a tiny desk with a cluttered inspiration board to a bright and cheerful room to get lost in.
TIP: This studio belongs to Melbourne-based illustrator Paula Mills. The way she has used the walls as her inspiration board is a great tip to take away to your own craft room. Don’t be afraid to over-clutter your boards with beautiful clippings and photographs.

11. An indoor-outdoor bathroom
If your idea of relaxing is submerging into a big bathtub and staring out onto nature’s wonders, an indoor-outdoor bathroom may be your ultimate luxurious retreat.
This bathroom is situated in the wine country of Sonoma, California. The windows fold back to create the impression of bathing outside.
TIP: Install folding doors, as seen in this design, to have the option of closing off the space on the colder months of the year without compromising on the view.
