We have/had a solar boosted natural gas hot water system since our house was built 10 years ago. Last year when we had an extraordinarily cold winter with a few very low minus temperatures in the morning one of the connectors gave up the ghost. Long story short, one of the two panels stopped working. Quote last week to replace the panel and small connector was around $950 for new panel plus installation- total about $1800. I’m currently mulling over my decision as my belief is if one panel has gone, the other won’t be far behind. The instantaneous gas part still works fine and my gas bills are really not that high without the panels working so I can’t see the point or value in repairing the system at this stage other than the environmental impact. For the moment I’m awaiting my next gas bill as it will be the big winter one (we have ducted gas heating) - if I don’t faint when I get it I think I may just leave things the way they are. I hate not repairing something but in this case I just don’t think it will be worth it.

if your element is buggered your water will start getting cooler over a few days and you need a sparky not a plumber....

The Plumbette

bob marley Yes you're right Bob. But there are plumbers that have an electrical license to change the element on a hot water unit. I thought I stated that in this post, but it's actually in this one. When to call a plumber about a faulty appliance
