Colour Splash: The Coolest Shades for Winter
Learn what two shades the experts are coveting, and how to use them to your advantage around your home
A new season is upon us, which provides the perfect opportunity to mix up the palette in your place. But before you go hitting up the nearest furniture store or paint counter, make sure you read this first. We’ve consulted Australia’s leading interior and colour specialists to give you the goss on the coolest two shades they’ve seen trending and how to use them. That way you already have an idea of what you’re hunting for before you hop in the car.
Like Blaze, colour consultant Robyn Hammond explains it’s all about blue this season. “Navy literally is the new black. We will also see it replacing charcoal,” she says.
“Teamed with accessories in plum, burgundy, teal or chartreuse, navy offers a sophisticated, yet softer option,” Hammond adds.
Jen Bishop, who is a former magazine editor turned blogger for Interiors Addict agrees: “I pretty much love navy all year round, but for winter it looks great with rich jewel colours such as emerald…
…or amethyst.”
Meanwhile, Jenny Williams from Creative Style Interior Design says the dark blue and white combo continues to be a staple. “That is probably because every second client asks for Hamptons-style,” she explains.
"They make a perfect dark neutral on fabric or leather sofas, as well as painted or stained furniture," she says.
Sydney-based interior stylist and author Jason Grant is also a fan of grey.
“I am loving greys mixed with earthy timbers and mixed metals,” he says.

“I am loving the mix of indigo and metals, such as bronze and copper, to bring some sassiness to winter,” says Shaynna Blaze interior designer from LifeStyle Channel’s Selling Houses Australia and judge from The Block on Channel 9.
