DIY Project: Bat Wing Napkin Rings for Halloween
If you're planning a sit-down meal for Halloween this year, here's a great way to dress up your table for some sparkly, spooky fun
To give your Halloween lunch or dinner a spooky touch, create bat napkin rings that are sure to wow all ages. You need only black paper, glitter and a few scissor cuts to get make this festive, and useful, tabletop decor.
Materials
- Bat template (click on the bat outline below)
- One sheet of paper to print template on (more to catch glitter, if desired)
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Black cardboard or thick paper (one A4 sheet should make about six bats)
- Paintbrush
- Glue
- Black glitter
- Square paper napkins (we used white ones with black dots)
Step 2: Using a pencil, trace around the bat template onto the black paper. You will need to trace the bat multiple times depending on how many napkin rings you need. Once the bats are traced, cut them out, remembering to cut the little slits on each side.
Step 3: Using a paintbrush, brush glue onto the wings and sprinkle glitter over the top. Once the glue dries, shake off any extra glitter and put it back in your jar.
Tip: For easy cleanup, complete this step over a piece of paper.

Step 4: If your napkins are folded, unfold them before you start this step.
Fold the napkin in half and then in half again to make a smaller square. Unfold it completely.
Next, fold the napkin in half diagonally to make a triangle with the longest side on top. Take the top-right edge and fold it down to the first crease (shown). Now fold that segment backward at the crease.
Continue this accordion fold across the rest of the napkin. Once you are done, unfold the napkin back to the larger triangle shape.

Step 6: Form the bat napkin ring by sliding the two slits on the bat together. Then slide the tip of the folded napkin into the ring and fan out the bottom of the napkin.
Extra idea: You can trace the bats directly onto glittery paper to save yourself a step.
