DIY Project: Homemade Reed Diffuser
Create a heavenly smelling abode and uplift your mood with pure essential oils and aromas
Reed diffusers are a wonderful way to bring spicy, fresh or comforting aromas into your home, but they can end up being expensive to buy, especially if you want more than one. This super-fast DIY reed diffuser means you can create personalised scents for each room in the house, and it won’t cost you the earth.
What you’ll need:
- Bamboo skewers
- Scissors
- A bottle with a small opening
- Spare cardboard

- Pure essential oils
Step 1: Trim your sticks
Using a sharp pair of scissors, trim the pointy ends off five bamboo skewers.

Step 2: Take the cap off
Take the top off the bottle you are going to use. I used a soap dispenser that I found at The Reject Shop.

Step 4: Fill with alcohol and water
Fill up your bottle with a 1:1 mix of the rubbing alcohol and hot water.
TIP: Another alternative is to use a carrier oil, like sweet almond or safflower. Avoid mineral oil, as it’s a petroleum-based product.

Step 7: Flip the reeds
After the hour is up, flip the reeds around. This step is optional, but it is useful if you want to speed up the process of saturating the reeds and spreading the scent around your home.
