Dream Spaces: Branch Out Into a Tree House
Get up, up and away and create your own room with a view in a treehouse (and no, they aren't just for kids!)
There’s still something magical about tree houses – being up in a tree and looking down at the world through winding branches. And they don’t have to be just for the kiddies – they are for everyone who is young at heart or just wanting a place of sweet refuge. They can be a quirky granny flat with a view or a place to escape from the daily grind with a book. A place for the kids to play or somewhere for you all to play together and bridge that generation gap.
Tree houses bring back memories for most of us, and it’s a great tradition to pass onto the next generation or revisit for ourselves. And did I mention how far the tree house has come these days? Gone are the ramshackled tree houses of old that were made up of roughly nailed timber and a throw-down rope ladder. Tree houses now are something else entirely. In fact, some are so habitable they resemble a quaint modern-day B&B!

The wisteria bursting from this treehouse makes for a magical view that can be enjoyed from outside or within.
The interior of this cabin-style tree house looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. The rounded windows give it a cosy ‘Hobbit-like’ feel and allow for lots of natural light.
Now, this traditional tree house is not for those with a fear of heights. I love how the house works with the tree in incorporating spaces for the branches to grow within the walls.
This modern tree house actually has as a tree growing right though it, so not only is it a tree house, but also a house for a tree!

This impressive open-air design was inspired by a Japanese paper lantern. The addition of stilts mean that the tree is not the soul support for the structure and can continue to grow unobstructed.
Most of the wood in this rustic tree house was harvested from the property it resides in and handcrafted onsite, including the wood for the balusters.
If you don’t have a backyard with trees aplenty, you can always make do and create an outdoor tree house-like design indoors. This cute ‘house’ even has a tree nearby and large faux rocks.
This technically isn’t a a tree house, either, but it is set among the trees. The modern design is just so lovely and inviting, and is affixed with a sail shade no less!
