Okay everyone, let’s be very upfront about the idea of a hanging wardrobe. We get that it’s not overly practical, despite the obvious advantage of freeing up the floorspace underneath. It is, however, an eye-catching, clever and unique take on the usual stand-and-stuff wardrobe. Here’s how it’s done.
Raise the bar
Hanging a suspended bar as your wardrobe is a great way to make use of corners and hall benches that might otherwise be a little lacking in interest. Place shoes underneath for easy access, and it couldn’t be easier to don your coat before heading out for the day.

Playing with optical illusions is a great way to increase the wow factor of a hanging wardrobe. Here, the bar is suspended with nearly invisible wire. Coupled with the spacing of the clothes, the wire creates an effective and eye-catching hanging wardrobe.
You don’t always need to squash folded clothes away in cupboards, particularly if you don’t have any of them. In this space, renter Taylor Hoff went for a retail-inspired look, visually increasing the space of the room with a suspended wardrobe, and putting the area below to good use by adding shelves for folded clothes, shoes, and styled items.

Sometimes, the way to making a hanging wardrobe your own can be as simple as coloured string. In this room, the bar is suspended from the ceiling with neon-pink cord, adding a clever nuance to a relatively minimalistic space. You can also add a styling element by matching the colour of the bar to surrounding furnishings – the bar with the bedside table, for example.
The wardrobe doesn’t just have to be a wardrobe, it can also be a sweet vignette and addition in a nursery. Don’t let it be limited to just clothes either – adorn it with garlands, soft toys and other knick-knacks to help keep with the theme.

Branch out
Ditch the bar and go for a solid branch to use for your rail. Here, there is a beautiful weightlessness to the way the wood naturally bends upwards, and the organic look is completed with thoughtful styling – the farm hooks add an extra touch.

Here, an otherwise forgotten corner is turned into a mini-dressing space, with a hanging wardrobe offering a complete outfit at a glance. Make the space something special by adding in makeshift shelves underneath.
Pipe down
Industrial piping can be an interesting way to make a statement with a hanging wardrobe and is an easy look to DIY.
