The study of astrology looks at the influence that our cosmos has on the natural world around us and on human life. Many people believe that celestial events and movements affect us, and often cite how the moon doesn’t just influence the tides but our energy levels, too. If you’ve ever read a list of character traits assigned to your star sign (or that of a loved one), it can be fascinating how accurate they are. Taking these traits into account when designing or decorating a house can provide a template for the style and philosophy of a home. Let’s look at how this applies to Virgos, as it’s their birthday at the moment.

Virgo
Virgo is the sixth sign of the zodiac. Those born under this star sign are known to be practical, logical and intellectual people. These traits mean that they are usually well organised and meticulous and can find it difficult to operate effectively in the midst of chaos (lucky we don’t have any in my house!). They often have a well developed sense of space and a real eye for detail. Often Virgos become architects or interior designers, so they’re a great sign in which to begin this series on.

Architectural style: Minimalism
Virgos love simplicity. It satisfies their need for order and makes it easy to stay neat and tidy. They are sometimes clean freaks and a minimalist approach to design makes this more achievable. Minimalism involves limiting colour palettes, keeping furniture and design details to a minimum and providing plenty of space. It also requires that clutter is kept at bay. As Virgos are usually down-to-earth and humble people, they don’t accumulate things and don’t like to be flashy, making them well suited to a minimalist approach in life, as well as in their design choices.

A kitchen like this would suit Virgos’ character well. The details of this kitchen are simple and utilitarian. The visual clutter of door handles don’t appeal to Virgos so push-close doors and drawers are a perfect choice for kitchen cabinets. The purity and simplicity of a pale colour palette creates an atmosphere of spaciousness. While for some this might be a bit clinical, Virgos love the cleanliness of this look. It’s not surprising that many Virgos work in the health industry and appreciate a meticulous workspace.
Bare flooring, such as tiles and concrete, in all rooms of the house sets a tone for simplicity. For warmth, Virgos who choose these flooring materials would be wise to invest in underground heating so they can remain toasty warm in the winter months, and not sacrifice the clean look that nurtures them.

A Virgo should employ other aspects of minimalism in the home. Keeping artworks and knick-knacks to a minimum will soothe a Virgo soul, as will limited furniture. This bedroom is stunning in its restraint. It has a simplicity of design that can only help to foster a clarity of mind. Virgos loves this. Because they don’t like to be gaudy, they tend to invest in beautiful, natural materials, rather than fill their spaces with ‘things’.
Character: The organiser
Virgos hate clutter, and as such should aim to have organised, practical homes. Investing in good joinery for storage is crucial to establish and maintain this. Virgos are well advised to take time to plan out their spaces fully, even measuring cutlery, plates and platters to create spaces within the kitchen so that everything has a place in which it belongs. Virgos are reliably tidy enough to return everything to its correct home – let’s just hope that everyone else in their homes are willing to follow a Virgo’s lead. Meticulous Virgos find it hard dealing with others who aren’t as tidy and they can be quite critical of less tidy star signs.

A walk-in pantry like this is likely the setting of many a Virgo’s fantasy. Check out all those labelled containers! When the kids are screaming and refusing to do their homework, Virgos might retreat in here, close the door and just breathe in all that nice, neat order. There’s nothing like the smell of Tupperware to calm a Virgo’s sometimes moody nature.
To get the home running like a well-oiled machine, Virgos would do well with a launching pad like this one. This clever piece of joinery includes a charging station, key hooks, a whiteboard and slots for paperwork. But its true genius lies in the fact that it can all be neatly hidden behind closed doors, keeping the clutter of the household organised and hidden.

If there are a few kids running around the Virgo house, their mess can be corralled in a mudroom. These are a northern hemisphere trend that has slowly made its way Down Under. It’s about time as these rooms are fantastic in a family home. The kids come in from school, dump their bags, coats and shoes and contain their general disorder to one area. Virgos will love how practical and useful this room is. They’ll also love how it separates the rest of the house from the mess, keeping the home neat and tidy.
Likes: Pets and nature
Virgo is a very caring and nurturing star sign. People born under this sign are often huge pet lovers and should design with this in mind. A smart idea for a Virgo home with pets is a small, dedicated washing station. Put this in the garage, mudroom or laundry to make cleaning the dogs much easier. It’s also a great place to clean off gumboots or messy kids as they try to bring their dirt into the house.

This food tray would be fabulous for a Virgo home. It provides for a pet’s needs, but does so in an organised, practical manner. It also keeps mess to a minimum. Perfect!

It is beneficial for Virgos to be surrounded by nature. Where possible, Virgos should make sure that they have access to a backyard or live near a park. They need to ground themselves with the feeling of grass between their toes and the touch of a tree beneath their fingers. Nature plays an important part in helping Virgos from becoming over reactive and moody.
Dislikes: Being cooped up in a messy, dirty home
As Virgos have an affinity for the outdoors, they should design and decorate with this in mind. The clean lines of this kitchen would appeal to Virgos’ aversion to clutter, and the close proximity of the natural world would calm their nerves when the kitchen is a little untidy.

Colour palette: Earthy
Virgo is an earth sign and as such, they are most suited to the earthy colours of browns and greens. In their home design, Virgos should surround themselves with the natural materials and colours they would find in Mother Nature, avoiding bright fabrics and paint choices.

This living room would be perfect for a Virgo. The stone of the fireplace and the timber shelf are natural materials and the whole colour scheme is one that will appeal to Virgos’ grounded and practical sensibilities. A mix of textures contributes to the earthiness of the room and the addition of pot plants will appeal to Virgos’ love of nature.
Green is a colour that is especially calming for this star sign. Virgos shouldn’t be afraid of using it to decorate throughout the house. These painted cabinets look beautiful in this bathroom and lift the sterility of the white room and fixtures. This would be the perfect combination of clinical cleanliness with subtle, soothing colour for Virgos.

We've all had our say and opinion as you said, so now I'm being savage, oh please!!! Now you're officially over the top and getting quite petty, pity!! You seem to be fighting a battle that never needed a fight in the first place as far as I'm concerned. I gave an opinion and you had every right to disagree but I think this issue has had enough time wasted on it!!
Can we move on and perhaps get back to the forum and maybe tell us a bit more about you and being a virgo and let's agree to disagree about the artwork!!
Missed the definition in my previous post.
horrendous
adjective
adjective: horrendous
'extremely unpleasant, horrifying, or terrible. '
That's why I commented. That's what appeared rude to me, over and above the normal "I don't like it," . If you don't like it, fair enough, but choose your words better. And yes, Virgos are picky and difficult. Over and out.
My goodness you can't let go of something can you, apology not good enough?
I don't need an english lesson, we went through this already, I give up, again I say, very over the top by miles!!
