On the topic of shoes... I think it entirely depends on where you live and who all lives with you in the house. A single women living in downtown New York, who owns a lot of different shoes to match with her outfits will likely keep them in her closets in the house, rather than all in the entryway.

For a family who lives on a farm in the country (that’s us), each family member will likely wear multiple pairs of shoes each day (boots to get work done around the farm; “nice” shoes to go to school or town with; and sandals in the summer. That’s likely 2-3 pairs of shoes per family member none of which shoes you’d want to store in your bedroom closet.

Goes to show in home design it’s all about who the homeowner is, where they live and how they live their life.

Really? White paint in a "mud" room? I have four grandchildren who love the mud and love to play in it. I live in a rural area, in fact, in the middle of apple country in NY along the Lake Ontario shoreline. White is the LAST color I would paint a "mud" room. Mud would be a good color for a mud room. At least it would be contained within. And where is the mop to clean up after the kid's boots have been removed and dried? Mud rooms are not for city homes. They are for rural country homes where mud is real and ubiquitous and loved.
