I still can't clean out our "packet drawer." You never know when you'll need some duck sauce or spicy What-a-burger ketchup.

I just cannot agree with getting rid of the rice cooker or the slow cooker. Both allow you to turn it on and go to an appointment, to the gym, out to garden or swim, run errands. And when I worked they were even more useful. You have to watch a pot. if you don't and something scorches you have a mess on your hands and no dinner either. Once, tragically, the sound of the smoke alarm caused our parakeet to die of shock,. It was devastating to the children. ( And more so to the poor animal ) The dog that I have now doesn't like it either.

I do agree about the bread maker. Even when I had one I used it only to mix and rise. I felt the cooking process made the crust too hard. Now I just use the Kitchen Aid stand mixer to mix and a seed starting mat from a gardening site to rise. Double duty items clearly and the crust is much more palatable.

I did like the suggestion to store all of the pots with lids on and enjoyed " lid roulette ." I have long felt that a good party would be to have everyone bring their orphan lids and containers, throw them on the table and sort for potential matches. And then send home leftovers in the results.

I have a medium sized galley kitchen. Theoretically it should be shipshape by now but there are a lot of seldom used but handy items. And no matter what anyone says I think that you do need a 1 cup, a 2 cup and a 4 cup measuring cup. You may be dealing with dry items, liquid items , oils and eggs in quick succession. Nothing is worse than cracking an egg directly into the mixing bowl full of flour, sugar and butter and finding it to be a bad one. If you have room keep handy items. If you should die suddenly there are services that will come and take it all leaving your heirs with a check and a cleaned out house.

As I've gotten older, I find I don't need a large oven or stove. I cook with appliances that turns off automatically. I wish they would come back with hidden stove. At least the oven can store things.
