Put a desk in the kid’s bedroom. This idea that a happy home life involves everything happening out in the open needs to end. It only increases the mental load on women, who are more often than not cooking a meal And tidying the living room while “overseeing” homework.

I have a child who has special needs so there’s a lot of learning tools that take up space in the dining room. I can’t do it in other rooms or she feels like she’s “learning “ and won’t participate. We use a credenza to hold everything and it looks like a typical dining room except for 2 hrs a day. Not stylish by any means but it works. Sometimes function is more important than design

You are so right, “function is more important than design.” We all need to live in our homes In a way that serves us the best. It is sometimes hard to remember that when we see so many instagram perfect pictures. I always end up loving furniture pieces and living spaces that function well, much more than those that are just aesthetically pleasing.
