How to Store Your Stuff in Plain Sight
Keep open storage looking smart with the right arrangements and containers
It's that time of the year again when we go through the biannual sort, donate, purge and keep routine. Home and organization is not for the faint at heart. It is especially difficult when we know the finished line is near, but are still faced with the dilemma of storing the stuff we decided to keep.
Are you meticulously searching, like a detective, for unused nooks and crannies to stash your stuff? Consider leaving more things out in the open. Yes, where everyone can see. It's all in the arrangement. Take notes from these Houzzers who make it work.

Your grandmother's heirlooms shouldn't be destined for a dusty box just because you don't own a china cabinet. Place them on an open shelving display. Arrange the pieces by color so that they appear as a collection, even if they are not.
Replacing food packaging with containers allows your snacks to become part of your decor when you don't have a pantry. Toss empty boxes and bags into the orderly recycling bins tucked underneath.
An assortment of spices disguised in adorable tins would make even the most kitchen-shy novice a little curious. A little countertop herb garden could only add to the charm of this minimalist space.
With the help of tightly woven baskets and vintage tin containers, the laundry room becomes deceptively inviting. You may even stick around to fold a load before bed on the generous counter space. Any excuse to use the table lamp will do.
Home offices are some of my most favorite spaces to explore with colorful storage. Not only do they help with the mundane chore of sorting bills, they also perform double duty as invigorating color boosters to a neutral palette.
If wall space is at a premium, install glass shelving in front of a window. As long as you contain the area to glassware, there is little interruption of your sightline to the outdoors.
Climb the walls as high as you can in an effort to preserve precious floor space. This convenient built-in hub houses major appliances, offers space for decorative display, and even camouflages the radiator.
Cleverly built into this nook with a view is a place for catnaps, clothing, and cuddling with a good book. With so many uses nestled into one space, there is more room for important things, like play.
