Great article, Becky, as usual! Enjoyed reading everyone 's stories-there's so much good advice. We did a 2 month kitchen remodel that hubby promised would be much shorter. In his defense, there were lots of surprises such as 50 year-old dauber wasp nests. At school I was hosting 14 visiting orchestra teachers and their students for a festival the week the sink was ripped out. We survived!

My suggestion is to box up things separately you seldom use, and see how long before you even need them. Doing this allowed me to put much less back in the cabinets, give away a lot, and simply store the things I used 2x per year. It was sobering to see how much unneeded stuff I had. My kitchen works much better now.

Instant Pot and air fryer were saviors. What I missed the most was an inside source of water that was deep enough that I didn't have to step into the bathtub to fill the dog bowl or wash dishes. And lights. I told myself it would be a Grand Adventure, and that helped more than I expected. Label your storage containers, and be detailed! I didn't find my oven mitts for a long time afterward. Three months later I still haven't fully moved everything back in, because I'm stymied by wanting the kitchen to be perfect. Boy, do I adore this kitchen, though!

I made big batches of chilli and a casserole and froze them in microwaveable containers in our small extra freezer in the garage. I set up a folding camping table as a prep table in the living room and had kettle toaster and microwave on there. I also quickly swapped to disposable everything including coffee cups for the builders as I found washing up in the bath tub killed my back 🙄
