I hope you girls enjoy living in the old asylum. Have fun, you're only young once, thanks for the journey down memory lane. :)

The apartments and grounds are so beautiful because the building was originally designed and developed as an asylum. Asylums were built as an enlightened and humane answer to places like Bedlam. They were designed to provide peaceful, healing escape and rest from the stresses of life. Gardens and separation from the hustle and bustle were considered essential elements of a good asylum. Like all good ideas, time, population and economic pressures and new efficient ideas eroded the asylum concept. The idea of deinstitutionalisation seemed good at the time when these asylums, now run down, were being closed. It is good to know that so much that was good in these places is being restored and developed to provide quality housing now.
