Hi Margaret, do you mean curtain rods, finials (the end pieces) and brackets, as per the below photos? If you can’t find anything you like, and you’re at all handy, they’re not really hard to make. Friend and I found some old machine bits in his garage, bought a twisted rod & chunky brackets in a metallic colour from a national retailer and he had the ‘masculine’ look he was after for his bedroom. We painted thick timber dowel and some decorative stair spindle ends from a hardware store, who also supplied the bits to allow the finials to be screwed in/out as required. I’ve also seen a loop made from balastrade wire, although I don’t know how that was done. It was very edgy and suited the ultra modern house. Just make sure your brackets are well made and the rods are strong enough for the weight of the curtains and smooth enough to allow for easy drawing.

Thanks so much Jan Dobson. You have given me some great ideas. Not al all handy I'm afraid but can work with your description. The twisted iron is gorgeous and the finials too. So much stock standard stuff out there so definitely a niche for a creative like you and your friend. I have approached iron forgers but understandably the creative process and time involved makes an expensive product. Also not too many of them about now. Great to hear your thoughts. M

Does anybody know where to source the old-fashioned type Holland (or roller) blinds? The ones on a spring system that Grandma use to have - not the chain system. Thanks.
