Room of the Week: A New Bright & Sophisticated Apartment Kitchen
Practicality went hand in hand with sophistication and customisation in this new Melbourne apartment kitchen
In a Q&A format, we talk to the designers – and examine the creative thinking – behind some of Houzz’s most loveable rooms.
Brief
The developers wanted a sophisticated, enduring design for the interiors of the complex, with considered practicality. We then worked closely with our client, who purchased the apartment off-the-plan, to adjust it to suit their needs.
They loved the original concept but we added additional storage, bespoke lighting and tapware, and a daybed with built-in storage under the picture window with that spectacular view.

Challenges you worked around
The location, size and style of windows and external doors were set and could not be altered, so we had to work within these set parameters. Although the space is not large, we really wanted to pack a punch and get as much out of the design and functionality of the space as possible.
Why do you think this space works?
The materials palette is refined and speaks for itself. The use of white on the majority of the joinery has allowed the other features within the room to stand out, including the striking concrete ceiling.
