See in the New Year With DIY Confetti Launchers
These fun, easy confetti launchers will help you bring in 2017 with a bang
For me, nothing really gets the celebrations off to a vibrant start quite like a confetti launcher. What’s great about this DIY is that it’s simple, inexpensive and a great activity to get the kids involved in during the holidays. All you need are some empty toilet rolls, balloons and confetti, and you have a fun party favour that’s dying to be popped on New Year’s Eve and beyond. Here’s how to do it.
What you’ll need:
- Empty toilet roll/s (one roll = one launcher)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Wrapping paper or decorative paper
- Scissors
- Latex balloons
- Stapler
- Glue stick
- Washi tape
- Confetti
Step 1: For good measure
Measure the length of your toilet roll and remember it.

Step 2: Mark it down
Using that wonderful memory of yours, mark down the length of the toilet paper roll on some fun paper. You can use wrapping paper, scrapbook paper … if you are a parent you could even reuse one of your child’s endless paintings.
Once you have marked your paper, cut the strip off.

Step 3: Roll the roll
Wrap the toilet roll in your trimmed paper to gauge how much you need to cover it, and then cut off the excess. Use this cut section as a guide to cut out more sections for your other rolls, if you’re making them.

Step 4: Tie the knot
Stretch the balloon in your hands a few times to loosen it up and then tie a knot in the end.

Stretch out the knotted tail of the balloon and, using both hands, place over one end of your empty toilet paper roll.

Step 7: Staple down
To make the sure the balloon doesn’t pull off, secure with a few staples. Most standard staplers should be able to reach. It’s ok if the roll gets squished when you have to push together, it will pop out again.

Step 8: Make it sticky
Cover the outside of the roll and over the balloon with a generous amount of glue.

Step 9: Wrap up
Lay the roll onto your prepared section of decorative paper and roll it until it is covered. You will have a small overlapped tail at the end, just add some more glue and press closed.

Step 10: Decorate
Decorate the ends to mask any rough edges, where the paper doesn’t quite cover the roll, with washi tape or ribbon.

Step 11: Add confetti
Fill the roll half way full with confetti.
Tip: Confetti is easy to make if you have coloured paper and a hole punch.

You can store your filled launchers in a recycled egg carton.
Step 12: Pop!
Hold the confetti launcher upwards, pull on the balloon knot, let it go and watch the confetti fly.
Safety first: Always remember not to point the launcher at anyone’s face
