To ensure you thoroughly enjoy this month, we’ve highlighted the key design events across Australia that you can pencil into your diary. There’s something to suit every design enthusiast out there, from Art Deco fairs to seminars about future ways of living, and here are eight of the most exciting design events to get yourself to.
Trade fair
26th-29th May, 2016
Event: The Sydney Fair
Location: 112 Lang Road, Moore Park, Sydney, NSW
Time: 26th May: 6pm-9pm, 27th May: 11am-7pm, 28th May: 11am-6pm, 29th May: 11am-5pm
Cost: $30 opening night, $15 general admission
If you’re a fan of Art Deco design and 20th century pieces, then you won’t want to miss this Sydney fair. Australian and international exhibitors will be showing off their collections of furniture, lighting, sculptures, art, jewellery, silver, glass ceramics and fashion. Take home a beautiful mid-century sofa or Art Deco lamp and personalise your abode.

For 23 days over May and June, Vivid puts on a spectacular festival of light, music and ideas. The city is lit up for the public to enjoy (make sure you check out world-famous Sydney Harbour). The Australian Institute of Architects is discussing an issue that’s becoming more and more relevant: where will our ageing population live? Weigh in on the conversation involving aged care, aged accommodation and retirement living options. This seminar will explore current developments and how architects are responding to different design needs.

Bowerbird is a bi-annual design event bringing together a hand-picked selection of the best independent contemporary Australian designers. It celebrates Aussie creativity allowing you to bring home a unique print, piece of jewellery or sweet ceramics.

With over 100 of Brisbane’s leading sustainability organisations offering up their pearls of wisdom, it’s a chance to find out how to live a greener life, and it’s great for a fun family day out.

The Finders Keepers market features over 200 independent Australian art and design stalls, where you can browse amazing homewares, jewellery and fashion. There are also food and beverage stalls, live music, bars and, of course, coffee stations to rejuvenate weary shoppers.
