About fruit flies and gnat- they are two different animals but both are annoying and can be battled much the same way. There is a type of gnat that comes from sewerage, so make sure there are no leaky sewer lines or septic problems. If you carried in a houseplant that was outside all summer, they might be living in that. Give your plants a shake to see if anything flies out. Keep fruit in the refrigerator (bananas in a cupboard), no dirty dishes in the sink, and even make sure the sink basket doesn't have food in it.

You have to take the rubber cuff, seal, or whatever it is out of your sink if you have a garbage disposal. You need to remove it regularly, turn it upside down and observe the disgusting, gelatinous mess that sticks to it. It will have an odor. Use the sprayer , on hot, to remove most of it and then, when you can stand to touch it , scrub it and throw away whatever you have used. No amount of lemon rinds, baking soda, ice cubes, salt, etc, ground top in the bottom of the disposal will do anything to control this area. People are under the illusion that the very hot water running through the dishwasher cleans out the disposal. Only the bottom of it is controlled by this.
