VISION AND NEEDS: Our client came to us with a vision for their family dream house that offered adequate space and a lot of character. They were drawn to the traditional form and contemporary feel of a Modern Farmhouse. MCHUGH SOLUTION: In showing multiple options at the schematic stage, the client approved a traditional L shaped porch with simple barn-like columns. The entry foyer is simple in it's two-story volume and it's mono-chromatic (white & black) finishes. The living space which includes a kitchen & dining area - is an open floor plan, allowing natural light to fill the space.

This master bathroom remodel has been beautifully fused with industrial aesthetics and a touch of rustic charm. The centerpiece of this transformation is the dark pine vanity, exuding a warm and earthy vibe, offering ample storage and illuminated by carefully placed vanity lighting. Twin porcelain table-top sinks provide both functionality and elegance. The shower area boasts an industrial touch with a rain shower head featuring a striking black with bronze accents finish. A linear shower drain adds a modern touch, while the floor is adorned with sliced pebble tiles, invoking a natural, spa-like atmosphere. This Fort Worth master bathroom remodel seamlessly marries the rugged and the refined, creating a retreat that's as visually captivating as it is relaxing.

This guest bath was remodeled to provide a shared bathroom for two growing boys. The dark blue gray vanity adds a masculine touch while double sinks and mirrors provide each boy with his own space. A tall custom linen cabinet in the shower area provides plenty of storage for towels and bath sundries, while a handy pullout hamper on the bottom keeps the area tidy. Classic white subway tile is repeated in the tub shower and on the vanity accent wall. Marble look porcelain floor tile picks up the gray color of the vanity and provides a beautiful and durable floor surface.

Renovation of a classic Minneapolis bungalow included this family bathroom. An adjacent closet was converted to a walk-in glass shower and small sinks allowed room for two vanities. The mirrored wall and simple palette helps make the room feel larger. Playful accents like cow head towel hooks from CB2 and custom children's step stools add interest and function to this bathroom. The hexagon floor tile was selected to be in keeping with the original 1920's era of the home. This bathroom used to be tiny and was the only bathroom on the 2nd floor. We chose to spend the budget on making a very functional family bathroom now and add a master bathroom when the children get bigger. Project Description: Step into the embrace of nature with our latest bathroom design, "Jungle Retreat." This expansive bathroom is a harmonious fusion of luxury, functionality, and natural elements inspired by the lush greenery of the jungle. Bespoke His and Hers Black Marble Porcelain Basins: The focal point of the space is a his & hers bespoke black marble porcelain basin atop a 160cm double drawer basin unit crafted in Italy. The real wood veneer with fluted detailing adds a touch of sophistication and organic charm to the design. Brushed Brass Wall-Mounted Basin Mixers: Wall-mounted basin mixers in brushed brass with scrolled detailing on the handles provide a luxurious touch, creating a visual link to the inspiration drawn from the jungle. The juxtaposition of black marble and brushed brass adds a layer of opulence. Jungle and Nature Inspiration: The design draws inspiration from the jungle and nature, incorporating greens, wood elements, and stone components. The overall palette reflects the serenity and vibrancy found in natural surroundings. Spacious Walk-In Shower: A generously sized walk-in shower is a centrepiece, featuring tiled flooring and a rain shower. The design includes niches for toiletry storage, ensuring a clutter-free environment and adding functionality to the space. Floating Toilet and Basin Unit: Both the toilet and basin unit float above the floor, contributing to the contemporary and open feel of the bathroom. This design choice enhances the sense of space and allows for easy maintenance. Natural Light and Large Window: A large window allows ample natural light to flood the space, creating a bright and airy atmosphere. The connection with the outdoors brings an additional layer of tranquillity to the design. Concrete Pattern Tiles in Green Tone: Wall and floor tiles feature a concrete pattern in a calming green tone, echoing the lush foliage of the jungle. This choice not only adds visual interest but also contributes to the overall theme of nature. Linear Wood Feature Tile Panel: A linear wood feature tile panel, offset behind the basin unit, creates a cohesive and matching look. This detail complements the fluted front of the basin unit, harmonizing with the overall design. "Jungle Retreat" is a testament to the seamless integration of luxury and nature, where bespoke craftsmanship meets organic inspiration. This bathroom invites you to unwind in a space that transcends the ordinary, offering a tranquil retreat within the comforts of your home.

Hood House is a playful protector that respects the heritage character of Carlton North whilst celebrating purposeful change. It is a luxurious yet compact and hyper-functional home defined by an exploration of contrast: it is ornamental and restrained, subdued and lively, stately and casual, compartmental and open. For us, it is also a project with an unusual history. This dual-natured renovation evolved through the ownership of two separate clients. Originally intended to accommodate the needs of a young family of four, we shifted gears at the eleventh hour and adapted a thoroughly resolved design solution to the needs of only two. From a young, nuclear family to a blended adult one, our design solution was put to a test of flexibility. The result is a subtle renovation almost invisible from the street yet dramatic in its expressive qualities. An oblique view from the northwest reveals the playful zigzag of the new roof, the rippling metal hood. This is a form-making exercise that connects old to new as well as establishing spatial drama in what might otherwise have been utilitarian rooms upstairs. A simple palette of Australian hardwood timbers and white surfaces are complimented by tactile splashes of brass and rich moments of colour that reveal themselves from behind closed doors. Our internal joke is that Hood House is like Lazarus, risen from the ashes. We’re grateful that almost six years of hard work have culminated in this beautiful, protective and playful house, and so pleased that Glenda and Alistair get to call it home.

Our client’s main bathroom boasted shades of 1960 yellow through-out. From the deep rich colour of the drop-in sinks and low profile bathtub to the lighter vanity cupboards and wall accessories to pale yellow walls and even the subdued lighting through to veining in the old linoleum floor and tub wall tiles. High gloss Carrara marble 24”x48” tiles span from the tub to the ceiling and include a built-in tiled niche for tucked away storage, paired with Baril brushed nickel Sens series shower fixtures and Fleurco 10mm shower doors. The same tiles in the shower continue onto the floor where we installed Schluter Ditra In-Floor Heat with a programmable thermostat. Custom cabinetry was built to allow for the incorporation of a sit-down make-up between his and her double bowl sinks as well as a tall linen tower with cupboards and drawers to offer lots of extra storage. Quartz countertops with undermount sinks and sleek single handle faucets in a subdued brushed nickel hue complete the look. A custom mirror was made to span the full length of the vanities sitting atop the counter backsplash.

This transformation started with a builder grade bathroom and was expanded into a sauna wet room. With cedar walls and ceiling and a custom cedar bench, the sauna heats the space for a relaxing dry heat experience. The goal of this space was to create a sauna in the secondary bathroom and be as efficient as possible with the space. This bathroom transformed from a standard secondary bathroom to a ergonomic spa without impacting the functionality of the bedroom. This project was super fun, we were working inside of a guest bedroom, to create a functional, yet expansive bathroom. We started with a standard bathroom layout and by building out into the large guest bedroom that was used as an office, we were able to create enough square footage in the bathroom without detracting from the bedroom aesthetics or function. We worked with the client on her specific requests and put all of the materials into a 3D design to visualize the new space. Houzz Write Up: https://www.houzz.com/magazine/bathroom-of-the-week-stylish-spa-retreat-with-a-real-sauna-stsetivw-vs~168139419 The layout of the bathroom needed to change to incorporate the larger wet room/sauna. By expanding the room slightly it gave us the needed space to relocate the toilet, the vanity and the entrance to the bathroom allowing for the wet room to have the full length of the new space. This bathroom includes a cedar sauna room that is incorporated inside of the shower, the custom cedar bench follows the curvature of the room's new layout and a window was added to allow the natural sunlight to come in from the bedroom. The aromatic properties of the cedar are delightful whether it's being used with the dry sauna heat and also when the shower is steaming the space. In the shower are matching porcelain, marble-look tiles, with architectural texture on the shower walls contrasting with the warm, smooth cedar boards. Also, by increasing the depth of the toilet wall, we were able to create useful towel storage without detracting from the room significantly. This entire project and client was a joy to work with.

Here we have our shower body in satin nickel finish and it adds warmth to the wall tile. The niche is generous depth and has been beutifully applied by mitred stone edges on all sides. The glass shower is custom and width half to make the shower feel open. Fluted detailing on the green vanity adds style and handsome pop of color. The mirror is smart and adds functional lighting while also showing the tall cabinet behind and the csntrols for radiant floors.
