ASID Design Excellence First Place Residential – Kitchen and Bathroom: Michael Merrill Design Studio was approached three years ago by the homeowner to redesign her kitchen. Although she was dissatisfied with some aspects of her home, she still loved it dearly. As we discovered her passion for design, we began to rework her entire home for consistency including this bathroom.

Create more space with a semi-wall and hide the toilet. The different levels in the bathroom and the sunken bath makes for a feeling of space and creates interest. At Nicola Scannell Design we love bathrooms. They don't need to cost a fortune but they need to be well thought out to maximise space and give that luxurious feeling.

We started out with quite a different plan for this bathroom. Before tiling we needed to re-plaster the walls but when we exposed the beautiful red sandstone behind, it had to stay. The original design had been pure Victorian but the final design combined Victorian with rustic and the result is striking.

Pillar 3 Designed this bathroom for a high powered Lexington couple with a keen eye for design. They wanted a sanctuary where they could unwind. Now they can enjoy a glass of wine in the soaking tub and release the stresses of the day in their new steam shower. The steam shower features aromatherapy, and chroma (light) therapy.Radiant heat in the floor ensures that toes stay toasty, and new skylights bring in natural light. Design by Pillar 3 Design Group.
