It’s often said that the kitchen is the heart of the home. And that’s literally true with this home. With the kitchen in the centre of the ground floor, this home provides ample formal and informal living spaces on the ground floor.
At the rear of the house, a rumpus room, living room and dining room overlooking a large alfresco kitchen and dining area make this house the perfect entertainer. It’s functional, too, with a butler’s pantry, and laundry (with outdoor access) leading off the kitchen. There’s also a mudroom – with bespoke joinery – next to the garage.
Upstairs is a mezzanine office area and four bedrooms, including a luxurious main suite with dressing room, ensuite and private balcony.
Outdoor areas were important to the owners of this knockdown rebuild. While the house is large at almost 454m2, it fills only half the block. That means there’s a generous backyard.
A central courtyard provides further outdoor space. Of course, this courtyard – as well as being a gorgeous focal point – has the added advantage of bringing light into the centre of the house.

The client wanted to pursue an industrial style with soft accents of pinkThe proposed room was small, so a number of bespoke items were selected to make the most of the space. To compliment the large format concrete effect tiles, this concrete sink was specially made by Warrington & Rose. This met the client's exacting requirements, with a deep basin area for washing and extra counter space either side to keep everyday toiletries and luxury soapsBespoke cabinetry was also built by Huntsmore with a reeded finish to soften the industrial concrete. A tall unit was built to act as bathroom storage, and a vanity unit created to complement the concrete sink. The joinery was finished in Mylands' 'Rose Theatre' paintThe industrial theme was further continued with Crittall-style steel bathroom screen and doors entering the bathroom. The black steel works well with the pink and grey concrete accents through the bathroom. Finally, to soften the concrete throughout the scheme, the client requested a reindeer moss living wall. This is a natural moss, and draws in moisture and humidity as well as softening the room.

Align Design LLCThis project was focused on eeking out space for another bathroom for this growing family. The three bedroom, Craftsman bungalow was originally built with only one bathroom, which is typical for the era. The challenge was to find space without compromising the existing storage in the home. It was achieved by claiming the closet areas between two bedrooms, increasing the original 29" depth and expanding into the larger of the two bedrooms. The result was a compact, yet efficient bathroom. Classic finishes are respectful of the vernacular and time period of the home.
