1. Location: Blackburn, VictoriaWhy we love it: Give Dad a quiet reading spot all his own with a smart, pre-fab studio in the garden, like this one designed by Backyard Room. If he really needs to get away, he can even sleep here too, thanks to a multi-purpose shelf ladder (a ‘shadder’) that gives him access to a sleeping platform above.

Together But SeparateRespecting boundaries and acknowledging your partner’s need for space is sometimes a winning recipe at home. If your other half is easier to be around with a dose of alone time, why not encourage it? Whether you call it a man cave or a she shed – or just a solo hanging chair in the garden – dedicated individual spaces grant both people permission to have some breathing room when they need it.Your sayHow have you set up your home for relationship success? Sheds have come a long way since the rickety rusty tin structure we know too well. Backyard Room is a Melbourne company that designs pre-fab sheds for those wanting a backyard escape. Used for workspaces, art studios or just a private hangout area, we found out that Houzzers loved the idea of a bespoke outdoor retreat when we saw almost 8000 users had saved this image.

I know this isn’t part of the house but what a great idea for a summer retreat/reading room/library/study!
