This mostly round room is great visually, but has its own set of design challenges. There was only one wall that would accommodate their sofa. The room is used for gaming so a TV was mounted on the opposite flat wall of the room. We helped the client with room layout, and suggested a round rug sized to the space so her son and his friends could gather around the rustic and very durable coffee table. Small frames were purchased to make a family photo wall. By keeping the frame smaller they could give the effect of wrapping with the wall. Larger art could never allow for that. The client loves this space now.

Art Deco Movie Palace Home Theater

Visionary Mural Co.

Design concept, trompe l'oeil mural, and faux finishes for movie artifact collection in foyer, entrance hall and home movie theater. Inspired by 1930′s movie palaces and art deco icons like the Chrysler building, McKeithan created this home theater featuring faux inlaid black and gold marble, sienna marble, and antique bronze architectural elements. Deco frames accentuate the client’s collection of autographed movie posters, photographs, and props. The walls are fauxed in a rich antique gold and red leather finish. The first photo in this series shows before and after shots of the doorway from the hall to the theater. This hallway adjoins the trompe l’oeil mural foyer. This mural features trompe l’oeil elements painted to appear 3-D like the faux finished architecture of the adjoining hallway and theater. Everything pictured in the mural is actually painted on flat walls but made to appear to recede in space; columns, curtains, reflective marble tile floor, carpeting, doors, framed posters, doors to outside, and a life-sized Oscar statue all are trompe l'oeil.

True film fanatics might even install a popcorn machine or fairy floss maker! Add a gaming console that can hook up to the big screen and you have yourself a fully functional media room. If you’re really serious about creating your own eclectic home theatre, spend some time researching the right home theatre systems for your needs, as well as speakers, lighting and lounge furniture. Do I need a designated room for a home cinema?

If you have space to spare, a separate cinema room can be quite the luxury, but it’s definitely not necessary to enjoy all the benefits of home theatre experience. Most people integrate their home cinema into their living room. So you don’t compromise on style, consider having your TV screen mounted to the wall, or install a projector that can be stowed away when not in use. If in your living room, try to disguise your speakers and any cables. Ceiling-integrated speakers are a great option. Otherwise, in a standalone eclectic theatre room, consider making your speakers a feature.

What should I look for in home theatre seating?

Comfort should be front of mind when looking for eclectic home theatre seating, so look for options that allow you to sink in, recline and adjust your headrest.
