The screened-in porch on this mid-century beach house was updated while remaining in sync with the rest of the neighborhood. Raising the ceiling gave the space a more open feeling and made room for ceiling fans with light boxes to illuminate balmy summer evenings. Beadboard panels on the outside walls and ceiling added a vertical rhythm while maintaining the mid-century ambiance.

"The circular seating area links a large side yard with the equally large front yard, giving both a raison d'etre.
The rounded "carpet" of crushed stone has some nice detailing, including the block edging and the flagstone path that cuts through it. Not too casual; not too formal. Definitely inviting.
The rounded area (complete with two charming turquoise Adirondack chairs and a small side table) serves the same purpose as a front porch, providing bonus seating to the two benches on the entry threshold of this traditional home. This side yard treatment is both attractive and neighbor friendly."

Bringing the inside out; The wide front porch eases the transition from outside to inside, creating an almost room-like feel. The Mohrman's play up this concept by incorporating a variety of furnishings including a former kitchen chair repainted gloss black. String lighting imbues summer evenings with a warm incandescent glow.
A colorful array of pillows adorn the swing on the front porch, making for a comfortable place to relax on balmy days. The couple gave new life to the existing swing with a refreshing lick of robin's egg blue.
