What Houzz contributors are saying:
The kitchen is one of my favourite rooms in the house to declutter and reorganise, because it’s probably the most-used room in the home – it’s called the heart of the house for a reason after all. The kitchen also has high demands placed on it: its storage is always full, and both accessibility and functionality are important.
My golden nugget…Don’t be too safe. White kitchens are fresh, but think about adding some of your personality to the kitchen. A really interesting splashback such as a photo of the Melbourne skyline can inject a lot of energy into the kitchen. Have some open wall cabinets or floating shelves for display. Stamp your personality on the space.
3. BlackbuttEucalyptus pilularisBlackbutt is a good plantation timber due to its quick growth and versatility. The hardwood timber is commonly available in NSW and southern Queensland where it’s often used for building framework. The common name blackbutt comes from the tree’s appearance after bushfire when the buttress (or butt) is significantly darker. Colour: Blackbutt ranges in colour from cream to pale brown, sometimes with a slight tinge of pink.
11. Decide on a feature wallIf your room is on the smaller side, or you simply want to test the waters, painting just one wall is a low-risk way to make a big impact. When choosing where to lay your brush, don’t automatically go for the largest wall – if the layout of the room naturally makes one wall stand out, go with that one to avoid competing for attention.20 fabulous feature wall ideas
The custom cabinetry throughout, although contemporary, also subtly reflects some of the period textures in the original building. The modern white kitchen, custom-built by Kenwood Kitchens, radiates a sense of order and style with a concealed storage wall in a contrasting colour. Subway tiles create a glossy splashback and repeat the shiny surface of the brass lights. The Smed stools from Great Dane Furniture work perfectly with the timber frame feature around the kitchen island, which is illuminated by three Rame brass pendants from Mondo Luce.
