Even if you do have a good amount of space, two sinks will eat into bench space that could be used for tasks, displays etc. Two sinks will also double the amount of under-cabinet space taken up by the double drain pipes.

Turn your bathroom into a retreatYour bathroom may not be as grand as this one, but any bathroom can be given a retreat feel with some luxurious products, soft lighting or candles, soft towels and fresh flowers. Take a soak in some Epsom salts for the ultimate in relaxation. More: Bathroom Inspiration: 20 Utterly Relaxing Spa-Style Sanctuaries

    7. Grand proportionsThe chandelier gives this lavish bathroom some old-world glamour. You can’t see it in this shot, but the bathroom also has its own fireplace.

It’s not all about the kids, though. According to Canny Design interior designer Janine Carter, using natural stone and porcelain in the ensuite bathroom served to create a serene atmosphere. Needless to say, the clients are thrilled and say the ensuite reminds them of being at an exotic day spa. Morning light spills in through the existing bay window – the perfect spot for the freestanding bath. The bathroom also has its own fireplace and walk-in shower. To show off the beautiful high ceilings, Carter added a drop-pendant crystal chandelier.Bath: Apaiser; Tapware: Roger Seller

    8. Establish eleganceFor a sense of grandeur it’s hard to go past a chandelier, and why restrict their use to formal spaces, such as dining rooms, when you can dress up a bathroom with one? Throw in some charming wall sconces and you have a room that’s fit for a princess.
