Nestled in the vibrant fishing community of Fingal, this modest beach house has been reimagined to address modern climate challenges while creating a spacious and functional home for a growing family. The original house has been raised to avoid flood waters, and repositioned over a warm brick screen wall that neatly contains the brick and landscape entry sequence. These entry stairs provide a natural perch to watch kids on the lawn, a place to engage with neighbours or take in the breezes and views to the local waterhole across the road. This is a modest gesture that strongly sets an agenda of neighbourhood engagement. A new addition has been added to the west including a garage, home office and living spaces. These areas sensitively relate to the original house through scale, materials and form. They don’t pretend to be original but sit in a complementary way, with a glazed link playfully connecting the new elements to the original structure. The design represents a considered and sustainable way to repurpose an existing house, while allowing it to better respond to both the changing needs of its owners and the dynamic coastal environment upon which it is built.

This elegant kitchen transformation in West Ealing was designed for a family living in a beautiful Victorian home. The main kitchen, island, and bar zone feature in-frame cabinetry with classic Shaker doors, painted in Little Greene’s Sage Green, while the island stands out in Green Stone Light, adding soft contrast. In the adjoining pantry, Jigsaw’s Ascot lay-on furniture continues the Shaker design, finished in French Grey for a subtle, complementary tone. Worktops and splashbacks are in 20mm Cosistone Carrara Classic quartz, chosen for their refined marble effect and excellent durability. Some of the family’s existing appliances were seamlessly integrated into the new design, including the fridge freezer, while RMK supplied and installed new components. The tall run of cabinets is a striking and functional feature in this kitchen. At each end, the two double-door cupboards are dedicated crockery cupboards with fluted glass doors that open to reveal beautifully crafted oak interiors with matching oak shelves, perfect for organizing and displaying tableware. The two central doors are cleverly designed as 'secret doors' that lead directly into the walk-in pantry, blending seamlessly with the surrounding cabinetry. Adding to the practicality and charm, a ladder rail runs across the cabinetry, allowing easy access to the top cupboards where the homeowners store less frequently used items like vases. The cabinetry is painted in Little Greene 'Three Farm Green' adorned by Armac Martin handles in burnished brass.

They wanted their kitchen to maximise the use of space while staying true to the character of their home. To achieve this, they chose our Sienna style kitchen cabinetry handpainted in a colour that’s been matched to Paint & Paper Library’s ‘Hornblende’ – a deep, rich green. Features such as the library ladders and the patinated brass pot filler add charm to this kitchen design, whilst being practical too. A restrained material palette allows the space to feel light and expansive, while subtle detailing brings depth and tactility. The cabinetry, finished in a soft neutral tone, is paired with the gentle warmth of timber flooring and a refined pistachio hue introduced through the Dezignatek Ronda profile — a moment of colour that feels both fresh and grounded. The NZ Panels Group Prime Stone Athena polished surface reflects light beautifully, enhancing the sense of openness while offering durability for daily use.
