LARGE CONTEMPORARY FAMILY HOMEContemporary Family Room, Melbourne
The main living/games room houses its own fully functional bar with a wall of wine racks behind glazed doors and free standing island bench. The floor is walnut travertine stone tiles. The games room also has a wall of openable glazed doors that look onto the owners car colection and are a feature of the room.
What Houzz contributors are saying:

Knowing the essence of what you want and how you live your life also helps your architect deliver a design solution that not only exceeds your expectations but enhances your true passions in life. This client loved his barbecue, wine and fast cars, and the house was designed around these three passions. We have remained life-long friends, exchanging photos of meat platters, wine labels and sports cars.Browse more dream garages

Play stationIn this marvellous man cave, luxury is conspicuous. For the sophisticated man about town who obviously lives here, there’s a car collection kept behind glass but always on show, as well as a classic billiard table and a fully equipped bar. Only the best finishes, furniture and fabulous cars have been selected. However, with so much highly prized shiny duco on display, one can’t help but wonder if the cars actually get out much…

A games roomIn case Wood runs out of date options…

Man caveI couldn’t leave out the dreaded man cave that has suddenly appeared in the brief of so many clients (well, male clients, that is). However, the man cave doesn’t have to only be what its namesake suggests. I had the pleasure of designing the ultimate man cave with multiple uses such as a games room, bar, library, lounge and car display showroom. The space appears as one but has multiple zones. Even the garage door is transparent to allow the outside to come in.TIP: With so many functions in one space, limit the palette of materials. Travertine stone was used for the floor inside the house, the garage and also outside of the garage. It was also used as the benchtop for the bar. This helps integrate all the functions into a common theme.

BilliardsWhile this billiard table on travertine floor tiles is impressive, there’s a little distraction at one end – that stunning bar boasting floor-to-ceiling wine racks, which may affect (or improve!) your game. This billiard room includes glazed doors that open to a garage filled with the owner’s collection of classic cars. It’s the ultimate boys’ zone!
