The owners of this beautiful Georgian property have been renovating for over two years with one distinct aim: to transform their house from boring bricks and mortar into an entirely original home. They wanted a kitchen that was sleek and stylish, but entirely open to put their own personal stamp on. All the units are hand-crafted from Quebec Yellow Timber and painted in Farrow & Ball ‘White’ to create a crisp, clean canvas for this modern couple. Warm English Oak worktops inject a sense of cheer and avoid the clinical feel that can accompany white installations. This minimal kitchen is finished with chrome knobs with square backplates and Scopwick Mouldings, for extra oomph. Special features include a floor-to-ceiling wine rack, a concealed cutlery block and a Tepan Yaki hot plate deftly hidden under a chopping board to maximize space and functionality for this couple of keen cooks. This is an example of a large contemporary open concept family room in Other with yellow walls, ceramic floors, no fireplace and no tv.

The main bathroom was recreated in an authentic Californian bungalow style featuring tessellated tiles, subway tiles in a brick pattern with capping tiles, Shaker-style framed mirrored cabinet, pedestal vanity, older-style toilet with timber toilet seat and older-style accessories. The original stained glass window was maintained. The only modern variation was the streamlined glass shower wall.

Inspired by the non symmetrical rhomboid shape Grey created this organically contoured island to fit the space perfectly. The hob is dropped into the concrete dais and a stunning wooden chopping board extends the entire length of one side. Grey favours concrete for islands as he says “it offers scope for customisation and also provides a contrast to surrounding wooden cabinetry, laminated and steel surfaces”. The raised solid English ash sever bar adds another level both visually and practically. The base is lifted on one side to allow light to play across the floor. The creative use of texture and shape add a sculptural dimension to this stunning yet functional piece.
