Campion Walker Landscapes
To anchor a modern house, designed by Frederick Fisher & Partners, Campion Walker brought in a mature oak grove that at first frames the home and then invites the visitor to explore the grounds including an intimate culinary garden and stone fruit orchard.
The neglected hillside on the back of the property once overgrown with ivy was transformed into a California native oak woodland, with under-planting of ceanothus and manzanitas.
We used recycled water to create a dramatic water feature cut directly into the limestone entranceway framed by a cacti and succulent garden.
Studio H Landscape Architecture
A low water-use drought tolerant succulent and ornamental grasses planting project in Pasadena, California. We used contrasting colors and textures of plant material to create a curb appeal for this spec home. The aloe and Agave american's are the focal points and add a great architectural element to the project.

This site 30’ above the Connecticut River offers 180 degree panoramic views. The client wanted a modern house & landscape that would take advantage of this amazing locale, blurring the lines between inside and outside. The project sites a main house, guest house / boat storage building, multiple terraces, pool, outdoor shower, putting green and fire pit. A long concrete seat wall guides visitors to the front entry accentuated by a tall ornamental grass backdrop. Local boulders, rivers stone and River Birch where also incorporated into the entry landscape, borrowing from the materiality of the Connecticut River below. The concrete facades of the house transition into concrete site walls extending the architecture into the landscape. A flush Ipe Wood deck surrounds 2 sides of the pool opposite an architectural water fall. Concrete paving slabs disperse into lawn as it extends towards the river. A series of free-standing concrete screen walls further extends the architecture out while screening the pool area from the neighboring property. Planting was selected based upon the architectural qualities of the plants and the desire for it to be low-maintenance. A fire pit extends the pool season well into the shoulder seasons and provides a good viewing point for the river.

Dymondia is a pefect choice for a walk-on thick growing ground cover for tough situations such as street strips, and could easily survive with just once a month irrigation in Alameda. The Dymondia was used here in all the areas where people would exit their parked cars, alternating with other taller succulents where no pedestrian access was required.
The yellowish/chartreuse foliage with pale pink flowers is the winter/spring flowering dwarf Breath of Heaven, or Coleonema pulchellum 'Sunset Gold' from South Africa. This cultivar of Breath of Heaven has the same wonderfully pungent foliage fragrance of the larger growing species, but lends itself to being kept clipped low to the ground. It makes a beautiful foliage foil for succulents, and has excellent drought and coastal wind tolerance.
