In the home officeThe use of built-ins really comes into its own in the home office. This one makes great use of storage with all those drawers, but there is also a homely touch with the recessed window seating – perfect for a quick afternoon snooze when it all gets a bit much.

The writing roomAfter Anne grudgingly takes Gilbert’s advice to “Let your characters speak everyday English, instead of all that highfalutin mumbo-jumbo,” she begins a successful career as a writer. She would need a beautiful room such as this to escape to and write in. The aesthetic here suggests to me the style of the grown-up Anne. It has a touch of the glamour she so loved as a child, but the simplicity and elegance that I feel would have typified her as she aged.
