We purchased this antique sideboard buffet from craigslist and turned it into a double sink vanity. The three doors on the front made it perfect for a two sink vanity. The middle cupboard is all usable space and there is lots of storage in the other cupboards under the sinks. We put Travertine tile on top with the original sideboard wood backsplash. We added brass and crystal chandelier wall sconces, oval mirrors, Kohler white oval sinks and kept the Moen chrome vintage lever faucets we already had.

Linda McDougald Design | Postcard from Paris Home
Linda McDougald, principal and lead designer of Linda McDougald Design l Postcard from Paris Home, re-designed and renovated her home, which now showcases an innovative mix of contemporary and antique furnishings set against a dramatic linen, white, and gray palette.
The English country home features floors of dark-stained oak, white painted hardwood, and Lagos Azul limestone. Antique lighting marks most every room, each of which is filled with exquisite antiques from France. At the heart of the re-design was an extensive kitchen renovation, now featuring a La Cornue Chateau range, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, custom cabinetry, and Waterworks tile.

View of the whole kitchen. The island is painted in Valspar Merlin and has an oak worktop with an antiqued brass inlay. The stools are also oak. The base cabinetry is painted in Farrow & Ball Ammonite. The splashback behind the Aga cooker is also antiqued brass. The hanging pendant lights are vintage clear glass, chrome and brass. The worktop on the sink run is Nero Asulto Antique Granite. The floating shelves are oak.

The formal living room features a custom gray Hollywood Regency style sofa from Gilded Home. Barbara Barry Chairs with textured white fabric, antique mirrored coffee table with walnut trim and carved white wool area rug provide texture and interest. Etched metal wall art in shades of gold and silver are accented by the pillows on the sofa.

We work on projects all shapes and sizes at H|M and all ages too: from Tudor manor houses to new build properties, every property comes with a unique set of attributes and challenges along the way. One of the most important things to us and our clients with the design of the kitchen, utility and boot room at the Willow House project was to ensure a good flow between the different zones and that the overall space suited the scale and proportion of the building. It’s hard enough for clients to visualise how a kitchen will look in an existing home, let alone in a building that doesn’t exist yet. Scale and proportion are so key to a successful kitchen design and the false chimney we designed and built in the kitchen not only houses the Lacanche range cooker but also provides a focal point that helps to ground the overall design. The antique effect mirror splashback helps to bounce the light back across the room and either side of the false chimney are wall cabinets providing additional storage space with useable countertop space below.

The 1,750-square foot Manhattan Beach bungalow is home to two humans and three dogs. Originally built in 1929, the bungalow had undergone various renovations that convoluted its original Moorish style. We gutted the home and completely updated both the interior and exterior. We opened the floor plan, rebuilt the ceiling with reclaimed hand-hewn oak beams and created hand-troweled plaster walls that mimicked the construction and look of the original walls. We also rebuilt the living room fireplace by hand, brick-by-brick, and replaced the generic roof tiles with antique handmade clay tiles.
We returned much of this 3-bed, 2-bath home to a more authentic aesthetic, while adding modern touches of luxury, like radiant-heated floors, bi-fold doors that open from the kitchen/dining area to a large deck, and a custom steam shower, with Moroccan-inspired tile and an antique mirror. The end result is evocative luxury in a compact space.
