The old kitchen, lounge/dining room and one bedroom were combined into a spacious living area which showcased the original hardwood timber floors and original wooden casement windows. A smart new kitchen was installed in the enclosed annex to the cottage, previously used as a storeroom. White gloss two pack kitchen cabinets and French door and door frame enhance the cream interior walls. The existing windows were retained to form an unusual and attractive splashback feature. Overhead cabinets add extra storage space. Hardwearing wood vinyl flooring in limed finish clearly defines the kitchen area. Individual strips can be easily replaced.

The existing house was poorly planned after a many renovations. The entry to the house was through a verandah that had previously been enclosed and the cottage had multiple unconnected living spaces with pour natural light and connection to the beautiful established gardens. With some simple internal changes the renovation allowed removal of the enclosed verandah and have the entry realigned to the central part of the house.
Existing living areas where repurposed as sleeping spaces and a new living wing established to house a master bedroom and ensuite upstairs.
The new living wing gives you an immediate sense of balance and calm as soon as you walk into the double-height living area. The new wing area beautifully captures filtered light on the north and west, allowing views of the established garden on all sides to enter the interior spaces.

This 7,500 SF Boulder, CO residence combines mountain lodge and simple agrarian forms to create an aesthetic appropriate to Colorado and the surrounding rural environments and pastures. A continuous exterior porch recalls traditional prairie homes while mitigating the overall vertical scale of the house. The porch wraps around the back of the house terminating at a stone fire place ‘ruin’ and courtyard. The fireplace chimney is scaled to read as a remnant from a previous home, positioned to appear like a freestanding element.
The overall massing takes its cues from traditional farmhouses by enclosing the space between 2 simple gable roofed volumes. This enclosed space between the volumes functions as a great room with all main and upper floor spaces focusing in on it. The loft like feel of the interior is defined with 6’ sliding barn doors, interior windows and bridge like connectors.
