The shape of this house, located in a gated neighborhood to the west of Greater Buenos Aires, was inspired by a painting and its driving force was the coincidence of the lines dribbled by its owners long before getting to know each other.
On a trial-and-error basis, it was an experimental project where we sought to get rid of the influences of the predominant images of current design and the main aim was to search for internal and external sensations, sustainability and re-using of left-over materials.
This generates situations to be found almost constantly; the virtual relationship with the garden and its pond, with three levels, interacting with each other through the double-height glass at the different times of the day, together with the clouds, the sky and its different hues. The cross ventilation and the sun entering the room in winter are also significant.
The functional layout finds a solution, in few meters, to the needs of a very large family. On the ground floor, the kitchen, the dining room and the sitting room are integrated so as to offer a spatial continuity that makes them flexible from a functional point of view and visually larger. The half-covered garage, located next to these rooms works as a complement to them, becoming a barbecue area that may be fully closed. The finishes are mainly those of the construction in apparent conditions: reinforced concrete, wood, aluminum and glass.
The main construction system involves rigid frameworks, built by concrete and steel beams and columns, whose main function is to cover large areas with little material and to replace division walls by other items such as furniture, plants, panels, metal or wooden and glass sheets.
Thus, the rooms are filled with natural light and are offered an industrial aspect inspired by the origin of Lofts in New York.
Garden Architecture
For this elegant landmarked Berkeley home, designed by Albert Dodge Coplin, we had the challenge of designing a garden that delicately blends Japanese and English style vernaculars at the request of the client.

This small landscape on the shores of Elliot Bay is a reclaimed 50-year old condo garden with great bones. The basic hard-scape was saved, some judicious pruning of aging plants was made, and new Asian-inspired plantings were installed to create an updated and serene place for the residents to enjoy.

Location: Hingham, MA, United States
This family had just moved back to the states from Paris and wanted their landscape to be an evocative blend of France and Nantucket. The front had to be low and open to the view of Hingham Harbor, yet full of color and a touch of beach grasses.
Rounding the corner toward the back yard is a dramatic hedge of Miscanthus gracilimus and PG Hydrangea, with a touch of Calamgrostis to caress your arm as you pass through the gate. The pool area in back is a cool blue slice of paradise, surrounded by borders bursting with bloom.

The Potting Shed is how a shed should look. It has a steep pitched roof with a generous overhang which, along with the small pane windows gives it a traditional look which will blend into any garden.

The custom bar and table are fabricated from bamboo ply and has a natural 2” thick cherry slab countertop. Asian themed home theater, bar, and wine cellar was part of an entire basement remodel. This project won National awards from NARI and Electronic House. The electronics for the theater include a 110" motorized screen, high definition video projection system and 7 channel surround sound system. All speakers and electronic components are hidden. The roof tiles were imported from Japan. The sofa is a custom design and was fabricated to fit the viewing area. All cabinetry and millwork were designed & fabricated in the In-House Cabinet shop of Media Rooms Inc. Other features of this project include a temperature controlled wine cellar, a custom built bar and a bamboo garden area.
Commercial entry doors were used for the wine cellar because there is no traditional framing required. The large glass panels allow the wine racks to be clearly visible. In order to eliminate the commercial appearance, solid cherry wood trim was applied to the aluminum frame of the commercial doors.
