Simply Home Decorating
The small master bedroom in this 1950's era home lacked character as well as space so we added some molding detail to the focal wall behind the bed and kept furniture to a minimum, replacing the closet and dressers with built-in cabinetry along one wall. The black painted furniture provides a strong masculine foundation that is softened with a pretty chandelier, delicate hardware and deep coral velvet cushions that can be changed out with the seasons. The master bedroom has a coffered ceiling and opens to the master bathroom. There is an attached sitting room on the other side of the free-standing fireplace wall (see other master bedroom pictures). The stunning fireplace wall is tiled from floor to ceiling in penny round tiles. The headboard was purchased from Pottery Barn, and the footstool at the end of the bed was purchased at Restoration Hardware.

The homeowners wanted a cozy and romantic room, with lots of feminine softness but enough masculinity to keep the space feeling grounded. We achieved this by juxtaposing luxurious fabrics in a light, airy palette with clean-lined furniture and deep, rich wood tones.

Black accents add just the right amount of contrast in this neutral master bedroom. Small on space but big on personality, this Scandinavian style room feels cozy and chic thanks to layers of texture and pattern. Custom elements like the bedside tables and upholstered headboard maximize functionality and available space without compromising style.

A master bedroom with an ocean inspired, upscale hotel atmosphere. The soft blues, creams and dark woods give the impression of luxury and calm. Soft sheers on a rustic iron rod hang over woven grass shades and gently filter light into the room. Rich painted wood panel molding helps to anchor the space. A reading area adorns the bay window and the antique tray table offers a worn nautical motif. Brass fixtures and the rough hewn dresser remind one of the sea. Artwork and accessories also lend a coastal feeling.

The king size bed was a tight fit between two doors in this master bedroom. As a space saving tactic, two crystal pendants were hung on either side to free up space on the small bedside tables. A small bench at the end of the bed provides a place to store a throw blanket or toss a sweater at the end of a long day.

Carefully selected leather bedside tables contrast against the silk and velvety fabrics of the bedlinen, providing a clever interplay of textures in this master bedroom.

Navy blue grass cloth and navy painted blue trim wraps the master bedroom. A crystal chain chandelier is a dramatic focal point. The tufted upholstered headboard and black stained wood with blackened stainless steel frame was custom made for the space. Navy diamond quilted bedding and light gray sheeting top the bed. Greek key accented bedside chests are topped with large selenite table lamps. A bright nickel sunburst mirror tops the bed. Abstract watery fabric drapery panels accent the windows and patio doors. An original piece of artwork highlighted with a picture light hangs above a small brass bench dressed in the drapery fabric.
