SOUTH COOGEE - HouseContemporary Staircase, Sydney

The staircase is in the centre of the house so it needed to have its own presence yet still feel part of the decor. The recycled timber stairs connected to the joinery in the rest of the open plan room

We hand made this door (and we love it too!) so we can't help you with a supplier. Although if you showed this to a great joiner or a carpenter who really loves working with timber they could set one up for you. Good luck with your door!

This is the product Kronotex Mammut and I can't talk highly enough about it. It really is beautiful to look at and so strong. This floor has been down for over 4 years with parties held on it, furniture moved across it, kids and their various apparatus and there is still not one scratch in the floor. I will definitely use this product again and again!

The floor is an engineered laminate floor. It is a stunning wide board
with texture to the touch. It is a commercial grade so wears amazingly
well. The product is Kronotex, the range is Mammut and the colour is
Capital Oak. A truly beautiful product!

When we built these stairs you couldn't use the engineered floors on the stairs as they didn't have bullnosing. Now most of the good quality brands have bullnosing so that makes a big difference. We used recycled timber on the stairs as we wanted that "recycled" "wharf" style look. I am not even sure what sort of timber they are as they were simply sold in colour tones. Which we stained to suit the flooring.

Start with your flooring and you may find something you can use on the stairs too!

Maintaining laminate flooringCleaning laminate floors is easy and much like cleaning other hardwood floors.Dust, dirt and sand particles can scratch the surface over time in high-traffic areas, so it’s important to keep the floors clean.Mopping is generally not recommended because the flooring is made of composite layers that are not all water resistant. As sitting water or moisture can cause the planks to swell or warp, laminate floors should be kept relatively dry and spills wiped up quickly.

Inside the home, the team employed recycled timber and a neutral palette to help deliver a soothing feel. “You feel like time can stand still in the house, and the manic pace of life outside doesn’t come in,” says Bettina. The entrance opens to an airy reclaimed wood staircase, which leads either up to the bedrooms or down into the living area. The Wallers designed the custom-made front door using a standard solid core door offset by a jigsaw arrangement of timber in varying thickness on the outer side.
