Some of the lower grasses are also welcome additions to the dry garden. With their fine foliage and tufted growth habit, they sway in the wind, contrast with thicker succulents and don't mind getting parched. Blue fescue (Festuca spp) and this Ponytail grass (Stipa tenuissima) are some of the best choices.

Le Stipa tenuifolia : son feuillage est lumineux, fin et ondulant dès que le vent souffle. Il est très souvent présent dans les jardins français et étrangers. Culture : pousse dans des sols secs et caillouteux et aime l’ensoleillement. Ne craint pas la sécheresse. Arrosez uniquement lors de la plantation et quelques mois après afin qu’il soit bien installé et enraciné. Espacez vos sujets d’au moins 50 cm pour qu’ils croissent aisément. Entretien : taillez à l’automne les feuilles mortes. Toutefois, son feuillage fané reste visuellement agréable. Avantages : idéal en zone méditerranéenne, pour un jardin sec, en rocaille et en massifs.
