10. Follow a ventilation planA well-ventilated laundry has windows and a door leading directly outside to a clothesline. A glass door is ideal as it allows more natural light in the room. Keeping windows and the back door open during washing or drying cycles allow for excess moisture to be drawn outside. Similarly, fumes can easily escape externally when soaking white clothing in bleach or using other toxic chemicals in the sink. This will work even better if the sink is located near a window. If these simple solutions are not possible, an extraction fan or vent to the outside is best. The fan will help eliminate mould caused by moisture and can expel the fumes omitted from some household cleaning products commonly used in the laundry.TELL USWhat improves the functioning of your laundry?MORE LAUNDRY TIPSHung Out to Dry: Fresh Ideas for Your Clothes LineGive Your Cleaning Zone a Clean-Up10 Wash-and-Wear Laundry Ideas That Go Easy on Your Back

Feature handlesWhen professionals design a laundry, the primary focus is generally on the position of appliances and planning for storage. As a result, handles are often an afterthought. However, as you can see in this laundry, oversized statement handles in an otherwise all-white laundry add a distinctive designer touch to the space. Designer tip: Choose handles that feel good in your hand and are easy to grip. This will make moving quickly between different cupboards easier.Get a grip on handles and knobs

Laundry benchAustralians love a big laundry bench – we enjoy having space to not only fold and sort laundry but somewhere where sewing projects, items for mending and pet supplies can go. A cluttered laundry bench will result in time being wasted because not only will you put off doing the laundry, but when you tackle it, it takes longer as you don’t have a clear bench to work on.
