Del Mar San Diego Small Custom Wine Cellar Walk in with Hidden Door Beer Storage
Del Mar San Diego Small Custom Wine Cellar Walk in with Hidden Door Beer Storage
Vintage CellarsVintage Cellars
This project is more than meets the eye! In a gorgeous neighborhood in Del Mar, San Diego, California, This unique small custom wine cellar truly acts as a showstopper. Originally within this house, the door which now faces outward used to be around the corner in a small hallway, virtually eliminating any visibility into this contemporary walk in custom wine cellar. Upon seeing the location of this space within the house, Gene Walder and the knowledgeable team at Vintage Cellars knew that to really take advantage of the room provided, (which is actually below the stairs), they needed to get rid of the original door and add a brand new one facing the main living space. Just a small feat in a series of unique custom features within this cellar! Here at Vintage Cellars, before any design takes shape, it is vital to understand what the clients wants and needs are based on their growing collection of wine. With a good idea of bottle sizes, shapes (some pinot noir bottles, for example have a wider bottom than a typical cabernet sauvignon bottle) and unique features desired, the team of wine cellar designers and wine cellar builders at Vintage Cellars are able to create a very special and desirable wine cellar for each client. The owners of this beautiful home collaborated heavily with the Vintage Cellars team in the design process of this rustic custom wine cellar - something that we aim to do with every project. The homeowners wanted to showcase some of their favorite Magnum sized bottles in a high reveal horizontal display row, directly on top of another area highlighting the best 750 ml's in their collection. This small custom wine room fills most of the left wall with single deep, individual bottle storage. Directly below this wine racking is room for wine case / wine bin storage. Centered within this wall is a nice space for opening and decanting wines with a gorgeous dark stone countertop and room for hanging wine glasses above. The opposite wall is filled floor to ceiling with label revealing horizontal display rows. Again, this type of feature is very desirable in recent years. Homeowners want to be able to showcase the best bottles they own within their custom wine cellars in the most stunning and beautiful ways possible. Additionally, this feature is commonly replicated with metal bars for a more contemporary and modern look and feel. Within Beach Cities such as Del Mar, La Jolla, Cardiff, Coronado, Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Newport Beach and Orange County alike, small walk wine cellars are all the rage. Custom Wine Closet s and Under the Stairs Custom Wine Room s are quickly becoming a commonplace feature within modern luxury homes. Funny enough, because San Diego has become such a hub and mecca for craft beer breweries, luxury homes within communities such as La Jolla, Del Mar, Encinitas, Coronado, Cardiff, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, La Costa and Torrey Pines have taken notice and began including space for unique beer storage within their custom wine cellars as well. This right side wall horizontal display racking does just that. If you look closely, those intricately labeled bottles are craft brews kept at a chill and refreshing 55 Degrees- just waiting to be opened and enjoyed immediately. Just when you thought the custom wine cellar tour was over, another unique feature catches your eye. You see the back stone wall? Press ever so gently in the top left corner two thirds of the way up and - Voila! - a secret door appears and slowly reveals more room under the stairway for case storage and the like. The homeowner also decided to add interesting lighting to this cellar. The Custom wine room can turn any color of the rainbow - allowing you to focus on all lights or just one a time, creating that perfect mood lighting for the holidays, springtime, or summer. This entire custom wine cellar and all wine racking were done in raw black walnut. Vintage Cellars has built gorgeous custom wine cellars and wine storage rooms across the United States and World for over 25 years. Instead of a dark cave, the wine room is treated an open, communal entertainment. the wine room proper is separated from the entertainment area by demising floor to ceiling glass to control for climate and humidity for the wine. The beauty of the series wine bottles remain visible and a focal feature the overall space. The ends of the Dark mahogany cabinet racks are treated as a series of tall armoires, and with usual walls removed, the wine racks are further displayed as halls. The floor is Onyx and in the interior one wall displays antique french decanters that is lit through an onyx wall behind them. (left side of photo).

1,500 bottle wine cellar built for award-winning San Diego chef. Generous display racking to showcase esteemed collection and share with guests and clients. Flowing, curved dynamic throughout cellar with custom storage and suspended racking to maximize space. This custom wine cellar design in Del Mar / La Jolla Area in San Diego California focuses on wine display. A few different types of wine bottle showcasing techniques were used in the wine storage space, including high reveal display, horizontal display, arches coved trays, wine case storage, curved countertops, and overhead racking. These custom wine racks in Del Mar / La Jolla, San Diego California were crafted from Premium Redwood; a highly sought-after material, and one uniquely able to withstand the cool temperature and humidity inherent in a wine storage space. LED lighting was installed to illuminate the lovely racks. At their foundation, wine cellars are above all a place to safely store and age wine. However, wine cellars are also highly valued as spaces to display and enjoy a wine collection amongst guests and friends. This custom wine cellars in particular embodies this spirit of entertainment that many wine cellar owners hold dear. Throughout this walk in wine cellar, at each turn visitors are welcomed and drawn to marvel at the cellar’s beautiful collection. The rustic wine cellar owner, an award-winning San Diego chef, envisioned a cellar where clients and guests could be entertained among 1,500 of his most carefully selected bottles. From custom pull out display shelves to angled individual display racking, labels of select bottles from his collection are prominently featured throughout the beautifully designed large wine cellar. While the wine is certainly the centerpiece of this remarkable walk in wine cellar, various custom design features give this cellar its unmistakable character and appeal. At the entrance to the wine cellar is a custom distinguished distressed redwood door and above the door hangs suspended racking that you’ll only find in a custom wine cellar. Finally, perhaps the most dramatic feature of the wine room is its regal custom flooring. Visitors will also notice the undeniable flowing design of the large wine cellar created by gentle curves of the countertop and racking. The subtle curves not only enhance the flow of the walk in wine cellar, the curved display racking fans bottles out before the visitor and the arches above the redwood countertops complete the rounded aesthetic of the cellar. Another unique feature of this walk in wine cellar is the uncommon shape of the room. Because of the irregular angles of the former bedroom, emphasis was placed on creating a space that was visitor friendly and still contained plenty of wine storage and display racking. For Vintage Cellars’, being able to take almost any unique space and transform it into a beautiful and spacious cellar is something we pride ourselves on. This chandelier was here when the project began. It set the stage for this Gatsby-style transformation that took place so that the homeowners would have an incredible space for entertaining and storing their wine. The walls are finished with a rustic faux wood paint and panel design; this provides charm and fluidity with the rest of the house. The custom chilled wine storage is embodied with ornate trim providing elegance to match the grand chandelier. Gryphon Builders, as a custom design build firm, can take your current house and your ambitions for it and turn it into an impeccable fluid design, embracing beauty, and functionality of everyday life. First & second floor windows to the right of the fireplace were blacked out on the inside to create a space for the new wine cabinets. Room definition was created by adding 14" drop beam to the ceiling and trimmed to match the homes current trim throughout the house. False beams were added to the ceiling along with rope lighting. The lighting was rearranged and the custom wine cabinets and fireplace mantel were installed. It all came together to create a grand yet intimate room.
