AFTER For this 1927 ART DECO Hollywood home, much attention was given to every detail when replacing the old kitchen. KGD decided to keep the original layout, the glass block windows, and the banquette area. We selected a porcelain floor tile which flows perfectly with the original floors of the house.. We custom designed a tray ceiling, with new square LED recessed lighting, to conceal all the new electrical work and to align the new appliance towers. To enhance the room, we added two Art Deco pendant lights and a rare Cuban mahogany starburst table with polished steel base. And, a pair of 1930s chrome dining chairs were upholstered in white leatherette. Green granite counters were carefully selected to accompany the “vinyl ostrich” banquette seating. Miele appliances were used throughout with custom white lacquer cabinetry with chrome streamlined hardware. For the backsplash, we created an Art Deco mosaic pattern of stone and glass which is lit by LED under counter lighting.

A new fascia wall in front of the existing windows is built, housing the authentic 1920 portholes, salvaged from a ship. The windows preclude the unsightly outside street view while permitting light to stream through. It also evokes a sense of mystery as to suggest perhaps some unknown reality lying beyond. The gears faucet is unique and mirrors the industrial and streamline metaphors of the time. In addition, a brass rail is used as a curtain rod, with Greek key gimp used as ties to hold the curtains up above the top of the windows.
Caesarstone Australia
This showstopper celebrates the Art Deco style of the building whilst incorporating touches of modern luxury such as the LED back-lit Caesarstone® Concetto White Quartz™ on the island. The mirror kick gives the illusion of a floating, glowing box.
Designed in keeping with the integrity of the building, the futuristic aspects of the kitchen are brought in through the functionality of the space and the impressive features of the appliances and accessories which have been included. The large amount of bench space, modern black palette, generous storage and Bluetooth sound system satisfies the needs for the modern-day entertainer.

Designed by Bedford Brooks, this French Bistro inspired kitchen showcases the right way to mix modern elements into a classic home. Should you have any questions regarding details or sourcing, please contact Bedford Brooks (also on Houzz) as I am just the photographer and as such, I don't have any of the specifics of the space.
