This master bathroom is elegant and rich. The materials used are all premium materials yet they are not boastful, creating a true old world quality. The sea-foam colored hand made and glazed wall tiles are meticulously placed to create straight lines despite the abnormal shapes. The Restoration Hardware sconces and orb chandelier both complement and contrast the traditional style of the furniture vanity, Rohl plumbing fixtures and claw foot tub. Design solutions include selecting mosaic hexagonal Calcutta gold floor tile as the perfect complement to the horizontal and linear look of the wall tile. As well, the crown molding is set at the elevation of the shower soffit and top of the window casing (not seen here) to provide a purposeful termination of the tile. Notice the full tiles at the top and bottom of the wall, small details such as this are what really brings the architect's intention to full expression with our projects. We have made use of adult but fun sanitary ware and tiling so that the young child will never outgrow it, but commissioned hand painted murals on the doors to create some magic at bath time. Fantastic storage for lots of products and open shelving to feature lots of bright toys. The glass pebble floor not only looks amazing but is also highly practical as it’s anti-slip.

Cornish Cottage Refurbishment

This was a lovely 19th century cottage on the outside, but the interior had been stripped of any original features. We didn't want to create a pastiche of a traditional Cornish cottage. But we incorporated an authentic feel by using local materials like Delabole Slate, local craftsmen to build the amazing feature staircase and local cabinetmakers to make the bespoke kitchen and TV storage unit. This gave the once featureless interior some personality. We had a lucky find in the concealed roof space. We found three original roof trusses and our talented contractor found a way of showing them off. In addition to doing the interior design, we also project managed this refurbishment. The client had several requirements for this Seattle kids bathroom remodel. They wanted to keep the existing bathtub, toilet and flooring; they wanted to fit two sinks into the space for their two teenage children; they wanted to integrate a niche into the shower area; lastly, they wanted a fun but sophisticated look that incorporated the theme of African wildlife into the design. Ellen Weiss Design accomplished all of these goals, surpassing the client's expectations. The client particularly loved the idea of opening up what had been a large unused (and smelly) built-in medicine cabinet to create an open and accessible space which now provides much-needed additional counter space and which has become a design focal point.
