I have had the priveledge of working with James and Lisa Hammel with Alair Homes on a number of projects over the past five years, as an architect. They are the first contractors who I go to when my clients ask who I recommend. I have worked with them on several large scale remodels, some very complex, and now they are actually in the process of doing my own personal home remodel. Not only do James and Lisa Hammel have integrity, but they also do outstanding work. They are also are very good problem solvers, while being very budget conscientious, which is very important with remodels, as there are always unexpected surprises. I have been in the architecture field for over 15 years and this group stands out by far. They have a unique and completely transparent business model, where the client has access to every bid and can pick and choose based upon their budget needs and design expectations. I can't recommend them enough!

I cannot recommend James and Lisa highly enough. Their attention to detail and thorough process is unmatched in the industry. At the end of the planning process I decided against moving forward with the renovation work because the budgeted plan didn't make sense for the property. Without James and Lisa's process I wouldn't have been able to make such a fully informed decision and they were very understanding with my final decision. I will definitely be coming back to Alair Homes for all future renovation work!

I will never hire anyone other than Alair for future remodel jobs. Their attention to detail begins with the budgeting and planning process and does not end until the job is 100% complete and the client is satisfied. We knew exactly what was scheduled and what was going to be completed every day. Lisa showed up every day with a plan and did not rest until it was done. I have a lot of remodel and construction experience and my kitchen remodel with Alair was the first job that was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Again, if you want the best remodel experience possible go with Alair. Summary: Absolutely amazing! The people. The expertise. The savings. The ideas. The management. The quality. We are delighted with the results. My wife and I are perfectionists (read: pedantic) so meeting our expectations is hard. Surpassing them, which they did, is a serious accomplishment. Project: We restored and remodeled our near 100 year old home in the Swiss Avenue Historic District of Dallas, Texas. The project consisted of removing a large section of the back of the home which was primarily an attached garage and laundry room. In its place we added about 1,000 sq feet - a 'great room' including a kitchen and living space opening out to the back yard. Within the original downstairs of the home, we remodeled the old kitchen area; converting it to a pantry, laundry room, mud room, coat closet and wine cellar. We updated the prior living space, converting it back to a dining room (original footprint). We also enlarged and updated the downstairs powder room. Finally, we updated the wiring throughout and added insulation to all of the exterior and interior walls. In the process, we brought the ceilings and walls back to their original state/style (keeping and restoring the original modeling). Upstairs, we opened up the staircase with new railing, windows and lighting. We moved the original (small) master bath to the large sitting area adjacent to the master bedroom to create a true master suite with a bathroom suited for the grand home. The old bathroom was converted into a large walk-in closet. The old and much smaller closet was converted into a gym and storage area. Another greatest accomplishment was the creation of a large outdoor living space that worked to coordinate the backyard and the home so they worked/lived together. This included an 800 sq. foot upstairs deck with casita as well as a 200 sq. foot covered deck off of the kitchen below. We also added a gorgeous outdoor staircase joining the upstairs and downstairs decks. Finally, for us, the most important aspect of this project was to maintain the warmth and charm of our historic home. We spent a great deal of time with the Alair team (which included their architect Rebecca Browning) to work and re-work the designs, the flow and finish-out to ensure we had the casual elegance we desired that would also be true to the historic nature of the home. They nailed it and every other aspect of this project.
