We do not recommend using Dimension Gardenscape because; 1) we identified significant discrepancies in the variations/accounting practices of the company; 2) the finished product is mostly good but barely satisfactory in a couple of areas and, 3) our full garden renovation took months longer to complete than necessary. When we questioned the costs behind some large variation invoices the company became increasingly defensive. With great difficulty we received a variation of several thousand dollars in our favour, but paid many thousands of dollars for materials, labour and substantial hidden costs far in excess of retail prices and industry hourly rates for other variations. Some of these expenses were incurred without a prior variation even being agreed. Our learnings: 1) We will not use this company again. 2) We should have insisted that there were no “tbc” items in the contract, insisted that each item in the draft contract be broken down into more specific work packages, with itemised costs for materials, labour and administrative fees (e.g. “delivery costs”); insisted that visibility of all subcontractors invoices and % mark up by Dimension be included in the contract; insisted that the costs of waste disposal be itemised in the contract and any money made on our waste (recycling metal, pants/trees etc) be itemised and deducted from the contract price.

Thanks for your review. We gratefully receive all feedback. This project has shone a spotlight on some weaknesses in our systems which we intend to address. In response to the points you made:
1. Our initial design process will not be finalised until all options have been decided by the client. In this case we had 16 Variations.
2. Our workmanship is guaranteed, we had no contact regarding any fault rectification.
3. Time management has to be a combined effort, which, in this case was exacerbated by constant lengthy delays in decisions around unplanned, additionally requested works, e.g., a pre-existing, major plumbing problem which was resolved.
4. Tip fee (Waste) dockets were shown to the client at the end of the project. They were on-charged accordingly.
5. The continuity of the work was compromised due to the presence of other contractors, such as painter and a builder, which required us to leave the site for extended periods of time.

Despite all comments about costs, we made a 4% loss (-$4,875.83).

We approached Dimension Gardenscape with a fairly low budget, and low and behold they completely ignored the budget. We got them to do what we could afford, and when it was shoddily done and incomplete, Trevor came out and tried to tell us that it is our fault and proceeded to tell me that the edging that my wife had done "looks like $#!*". I found the workers nice to deal with but the boss guy was rude and judgemental. I would not recommend these guys to anyone. We had to call these guys back twice to rectify the problems.

Dimension won our job ahead of other bidders because they took the time to talk with us and work out what we wanted to achieve. Their Brief was to transform an overgrown cottage garden and improve access from the outside to the inside of our home. Dimension's business model is set up for win/win: the use of professionals to do the garden redesign, clarification of budget considerations, with a very clear implementation plan and payment schedule moving forward. Dimension worked within our budget and have completely transformed the entrance to our home. We are delighted. Their team are meticulous and consulted us early and fully when they foresaw little issues that needed to be resolved. They readily accepted a couple of changes we made along the way, finished up ahead of schedule and left the site clean as a pin. They come highly recommended.

Dimension Gardenscape undertook a major rebuild of our entire garden in 2016. They consulted patiently with us and the designer during the design phase, and were diligent in resolving design details during construction. They were highly efficient in executing the contract, have followed up on residual issues post-contract, and deliver to very high standards of professional finish. Their stone and carpentry subcontractors are outstanding. Just the company you need for a complex, demanding landscaping project. Highly recommended.

Trevor and his team were friendly and efficient. Trevor provided a extended consultation in the planning phase for our backyard and gave us plenty of ideas we hadn't even considered. He steered us away from design ideas that would have been detrimental to the overall backyard aesthetic that we were going for. He is also very knowledgeable about different plant species that work in the Canberra climate. 10/10 would use again for any further landscaping work and have already recommended to our family and friends.
