HND Architects

I worked with Heather and her team at HND Architects on my home renovation project. Turning a house built in 1880–and not updated for about 40 years–into an open concept contemporary home was a challenge. I knew I wanted all the walls down, a large island, and a well-concepted living/dining space to flow seamlessly from what was originally a dingy and divided layout. Heather listened to everything I had to say, everything I wanted, everything that was on my wish list, and made it happen. Her ideas and her plan for my home were not only beautiful but also functional. Every square inch was considered, and Heather found a way to put storage in places that might have otherwise collected dust. She not only designed the layout of my home, but many of the built-in pieces she designed are now beautiful architectural features. I could not be happier with the final result of our project, or our working relationship. I would recommend HND Architects to anyone looking for guidance, ideas, organization and experience for their project.

Several years ago we hired HND Architects when we wanted to spruce up our mudroom and turn an extremely underutilized front room into a library/playroom. Heather was extremely helpful in guiding us towards a vision of what we wanted/needed since, to be honest, we were sort of "all over the place". She asked insightful questions, listened and responded to our answers and brought up things we hadn't considered. She is very practical in her approach to her designs, helping us develop something that would fit our life. She developed plans for benches, cubbies and storage for our mudroom, and bookshelves, a desk, new mantle and the worlds greatest window seat for our library/playroom. The end result is that we couldn't be happier. Our mudroom is so inviting and has plenty of storage, while our library is now our favorite room in the house. We enjoyed working with her so much that we have asked for her help again, albeit on a much smaller project in the kitchen and dining room.

We absolutely love our kitchen, and we would not have this kitchen if it were not for Heather Deschenes. We had waited 10+ years to remodel and had a lengthy list of “must haves”. We were working with a contractor and a cabinet/design professional and just couldn’t get to a design that met our needs. We were close to abandoning the project when we visited Heather. She turned everything around – reviewing our wish list, walking through our home and listening to us. In very short time we had our kitchen! We ended up flipping our kitchen with our dining room which got us everything on our list except one item. It is a dream kitchen and has changed the entire flow of our first floor. HND Architects is wonderful! Heather the owner is amazing at finding out what you want and making it come to life. I had her help me design a woodworking shop and she was with me every step of the way with advice for zoning board and helping me pick a contractor. It was really an awesome experience. My shop is super cool!! I will be remodeling my bathroom and closet and will be excited to hire her and work with her again.

HND Architects transformed our ranch style home into a two story cape with cathedral ceilings and a second floor master suite. Health Deschenes was committed to the project and listened to our needs. She met with us continuously throughout the project and provided us with several drafts of the plans from which to choose. Mrs. Deschenes expertise was valued as she guided us through the myriad of decisions required in a project like this. We couldn't be happier with the results.

My first project with HND Architects was an extensive porch renovation. We took down an existing 1-story porch and made a 2-story veranda off of the master bedroom; the challenge was in the existing roof configuration. The Architect listened to my concerns and ideas, and created a fantastic set of plans that made it easy for the builder to follow. I am thrilled with the results and exceptional teamwork!
