My wife and I had been seeking a natural, live-edge style coffee table for our new living room when our interior designer and another wood craftsman referred us to a local fine furnishings show. While many awarded and talented artisans were there, John's "folded" table spoke to us, with the so called "waterfall" legs. Just a lovely design that is both elegant and so, so solid. It's a substantial, heirloom piece, one that we are living with every day--it's got to deal with feet up on it, snacks/drinks, and just everyday use, and cleans up nicely with a beeswax-based product he recommended. It's tough and beautiful. Just as nature intended. No flimsy craftsmanship here. John even spoke to where the specific log came from, it's circumstances, etc. When we have future needs, it's great to know we could utilize John's expertise to pick out our own slab, consult with him on wood types, staining and styles, and work through the whole process. As we left his booth, his larger items were quickly selling out. No wonder, the things of beauty that they are. And reasonably priced, too. His PA location must help him keep prices competitive vs. the tri-state area, and for what you get, I think there's no comparison. My wife and I are happy to recommend JC Sterling Fine Furniture. JCSterling built 3 gorgeous 3-tier cabinets for my home in Truckee/Tahoe. John's craftsmanship Is of the highest caliber , and the finished pieces are GORGEOUS . My friends/guests are amazed At the beauty and uniqueness of his work. Once the Tahoe community sees his work , we may request he move his shop out here!

We love our new coffee table! But it's actually more like a piece of art than a table. John took the time to let us come by and actually pick out the piece of Walnut wood we wanted and then he helped us design exactly the right piece for our family room. His craftsmanship is beautiful and he was very easy to work with. He even emailed options for what one of the supports should look like and let us choose. In the end, we have a gorgeous table and conversation piece-- a little piece of PA in our NYC home. (Not to mention that his prices are much better than the only other artisans we found in Brooklyn). John clearly enjoys and takes pride in his work.

John creates functional artwork. Our dining room table is not only gorgeous but will be used for many family gatherings at our cabin retreat. We wanted a table that could be used without worry and one that could be handed down from one generation to the next and this truly is a legacy piece. My husband and I saw John's work at a show at the Chautauqua Institution and were taken with the design and workmanship of his furniture. We kept his card and periodically checked his website, thinking one day we might buy one of his pieces. I finally dove in and contacted John about building a piece for my husband. Every step of the way, it was a pleasure working with John. He sent me photos as he selected the wood and constructed the cabinet. It was like getting the equivalent of ultrasound photos of my children growing in my womb! The finished piece is extraordinary. As it ages, it becomes more beautiful. We receive many compliments and we get great pleasure from having such a lovely piece of art in our home.

John Sterling designed and built a foyer table for us, based on a table we had seen in a gallery. He worked closely and efficiently with us to select a slab of wood that would fit our space. The finished table is beautiful, and is just what we wanted. The project was completed promptly and on budget. John is a fine craftsperson and it was a pleasure to work with him.

We have 3 chair/stools and 3 tables/benches that John has done for us since 2010. They are among our favorite pieces and are intended to become family heirlooms for our children. He has an incredible way of bringing out the most beautiful aspects of the wood he selects. All of our pieces are amazing. The designs he developed for each and the composition of the wood exquisitely emphasize the natural beauty of the cherry and walnut he chose while being innovatively practical. His chairs, while nearly too beautiful to sit in, are super comfortable and we find ourselves naturally drawn to sitting in them as often as possible. We have nearly filled all spare space in our home with his pieces... and I say nearly only because we are always tempted and often succumb to adding just one more when our eye catches the beauty of another one of John's creations.

We have a long running relationship with John as collectors. Most of the furniture in our house was made by him. We keep coming back for his custom pieces produced with care, precision, and his unique style. We asked him for a toy box and were pleased with a black walnut neo - Japanese style precision hinged masterpiece. Some of our pieces are featured on John's website. That's our headboard and night stands.

John Sterling's fine furniture is soul satisfying. The wood is given a new voice. From the initial conversation through the design and constructions to the delivery, I felt I was a repected part of the process. As a result I have four beautiful examples of his craftmanship. Schedule and price were on the mark and the experience was befitting the product. I take great pleasue owning and using his exquisitly fashioned desk,shelf, side table and chair.

John Sterling created a stuffing piece of furniture -- heirloom quality, really -- and I was fortunate to come across it at a rustic furniture show in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. John's design style has that Zen quality of being simple and natural... and breathtaking. His ability to match the right boards to create his pieces is masterful. When friends and family visit, invariably someone says, "This is a beautiful piece of furniture. Where did you find it?" I found it by chance... and feel fortunate that I did.

We contracted with John for a dining room table and 6 chairs. We visited his shop in Central PA, talked about different options, chose the wood and the design that we wanted, and settled on a price. John was extremely professional throughout the process and provided us with a written contract containing the cost and the time frame, which he adhered to perfectly. We love our table and chairs - they are exactly what we wanted, exactly what we contracted for, and exactly what we expected. John is an artist, but an artist who also understands how to run a business and interact with clients.

I was one of johns first clients in the late 90s and have been buying from him ever since. He has done many custom pieces for my family that we simply cherish! I have a lot of stickley and johns work complements my pieces perfectly. You know there are times when you need a perfect piece of furniture for a spot and you want it to be well made, beautiful, interesting and truly an investment piece that you will cherish... Well his work fits the bill perfectly! Cant say enough about the perfection in the workmanship, the beauty of the hand chosen woods and the customer service! Not enough stars to check off! My only worry is that he becomes so sought after I will have to wait in line! Lol
