We hired J.N. Ruddy Builders to spearhead a Deane kitchen renovation and family room renovation of a home we recently purchased in Darien, which included substantial structural alterations to the interior first-floor level of the house. They far exceeded our expectations. John came highly recommended by our designer at Deane and was a pleasure to work with. He stuck to the budget and time frame and was easy to communicate with--always picking up the phone, answering emails in a timely manner, and most importantly, he was present on the job. John's team was professional and trustworthy. They demonstrated an exceptional knowledge of their trade and displayed excellent craftsmanship. John brought good ideas to the table and listened to what we wanted for our overall look and aesthetic. I could tell it was important to him that we as clients be happy with the work, and he never hesitated to redesign something to our liking if necessary. He went out of his way many times to make sure all the details were finished properly. He also genuinely offered to help and give advice on things (separate from the job) that came up as the project moved along. The kitchen and family room area turned out beautifully, beyond what we envisioned. We ended up hiring J.N. Ruddy Builders for a second project and look forward to the same great results.

John Ruddy is fantastic!!! He's responsive, creative, efficient and a really nice guy. As a real estate agent in Darien and Rowayton, he's my go-to source for clients who need quotes on projects when making a home buying decision. And then he's the guy to call to get the job done. He's done work for me and I loved every minute of it. Don't think of calling anyone else. He's your guy.

As an interior designer, you can only hope that you'll get to work with a builder as fantastic as John. He's detail oriented, patient and an absolute pleasure to work with. He goes out of his way to do the best possible work and is always thinking about what is best for the client and the house. He is honest, doesn't cut corners and always gives great advice. I cannot recommend him enough!

John did an outstanding job on our master suite / bathroom, completing on time and on budget. The entire project was meticulously planned and executed with high attention to detail. What John charged us was what he quoted, even though he did extra work that was not in the original plan / quote and bought a few items we forgot. John did not cut any corners, which was important to us since a leaky bathroom could lead to experience repairs in the future. While other contractors (including one I've hired in the past) cut corners on the work you can't see (e.g., behind walls or under the floor), John did the complete opposite. For example, John put an extra layer of shock absorbent and waterproof material between our subfloor and bathroom tiles to prevent the tiles from cracking and to prevent moisture from seeping down to the subfloor. Even before we hired John, he offered his help and gave us unbiased advice. John was very knowledgeable and on the rare occasion he doesn't know something he will tell you, and then find somebody who does know. That's something I respect and not a common trait. I rarely say this about somebody, but John is genuinely a good person. He is not into self-promotion and didn't have a single bad thing to say about terrible work done by another contractor. He even takes off his shoes before entering my house, even I don't do that. In the end, I learned that there's always going to be somebody that can give you a cheaper quote. Ultimately, I wanted somebody who I can trust to do quality work that is on time, on budget, and with no corners being cut that could result in expensive repairs 5 years later. We are glad we went with John for this project and love our new master bath and suite as a result.

Hiring John was one of the best decisions we made when it came to renovating our house. He was very involved from day 1 and was a fantastic resource for us throughout the entire project. John is not only a fantastic builder but also a pleasure to work with. All of his subs were extremely professional and take great pride in their work. Our house renovation was very smooth and came in on time and on budget (very rare!). I highly recommend John Ruddy for both small and large projects.

I highly recommend John for any remodeling or renovation project that you may be considering. John recently remodeled my colonial home in Darien which involved finishing the third floor, basement and bonus room over the garage as well as remodeling the kitchen and expanding the mudroom. It was a very large project spanning four floors and involving 3 new bathrooms, built-in cabinetry, skylights, a fireplace and a wet bar with appliances. John managed the project with ease while being very focused on quality and timing. He was always accessible, responsive and patient. I felt like he cared about the end product as much or more than I did. The transformation was amazing – well beyond what I could have ever envisioned resulting in an eventual sale above my listing price.

My wife and I purchased a house in Darien that was constructed in the 50’s. We hired John and his team to completely renovate the interior of the house and build our custom home. John and his team has helped us throughout the entire renovation project. They were always courteous and professional. Our opinions were always respected. They redesigned the place for us and transformed it from an old outdated house into a beautiful modern home. The end result and the level of attention to detail are nothing short of amazing. We love our new home and we had the best experience working with John and his team.

John completed 600+ SF on our third floor, including adding a bathroom during Q2 2016. From proposal delivery through final inspection, John was highly professional and constantly focused on addressing and any all questions and exceeding expectations. Of significant relevance to this project was the way he coordinated with various professionals to be respectful of the rest of our home and family needs during the process. Notably, John was always easily accessible throughout the process and was proactive in addressing any minor events that arose to not become schedule impacts. My husband and I bought a new house that was recently built by J.N. Ruddy builders. We bought the house after it was completed but we wouldn't have changed a thing! The design, craftsmanship and finishes are all perfect. It is obvious that no detail was overlooked in building this house. John has also been incredibly helpful since we moved in. Whenever we have a question or concern, he responds immediately. We had a question about the stove and he was here the next morning at 9:30 with the appliance installer to make sure there was no problem (there wasn't!). If you are looking to build or renovate call him!

We have worked with J.N. Ruddy Builders on numerous projects including a complete renovation of our personal home, two full bathroom renovations for family members, several gut renovations on investment properties, and the ground-up construction of a new spec house in Darien, CT. In every instance, John and his team have been nothing short of outstanding. They consistently deliver high quality work that exceeds our expectations, with an attention to design and detail that is impeccable. John was our GC for a complete kitchen remodeling and an addition to allow easier access to the basement. Our house was built in 1906 and provided many challenges as we removed walls, relocated stair cases and updated the electrical, HVAC, added a wet bar and all new cabinets and appliances, John's team were very competent and professional and did a wonderful job in all aspects of the project. Even when we were made major changes during the project (added new windows and a pantry, expanded the opening to the foyer and moving several steam radiators) John was able to keep us on schedule and as close to budget as possible. He and his team did a great job. I recommend him to anyone wanting a truly professional job of the highest quality. I've hired him to help with my next project.
