I worked with Tom on a basement finish. The end result was the space I've always wanted...but it started with Tom helping me figure out the best use of space and features that really made the rest of the project a breeze. I had never worked with an architect but it was the best decision I could have made. Tom and I talked through what I thought I wanted (a large bar, home work area, bathroom, and home theater) and he came back with several drawings and iterations that went beyond what I could envision on my own. From there he worked with me to combine several different ideas until we had the final plans. Being able to provide measurements and dimensions to the contractors throughout the process was invaluable. There was never a question of what went where or the measurements of a wall or room - Tom nailed it and his plans were flawless. I hope to work with Tom again....there would be no reason to look for another architect. His pricing is fair and honest for the product he produces.

Tom McDonough is talent with a capital "T". His ability to transform the client's vision into a drawing is not only fun to watch but amazing to follow as the project grows. My wife and I spent months going from conversation to concept to concrete plans. On a cost/value scale, Tom is wonderful because the cost is flat by square foot, and Tom never quits giving - he makes it clear that he's with the client till the end of the project, and the fee doesn't go up just because you need a little more hand holding than the next guy. Value? Check. Quality? Check. Personality? Check. Responsiveness? Double Check.

Tom designed our dream house for Cedar Creek (Olathe, KS) from the ground up. At the initial meeting with me and the builder, Tom was able to visualize what we were trying to accomplish and give immediate feedback via sketches and creative ideas. I knew we wanted a Reverse WalkOut style, each room we wanted and approximate sizes of each room, however, I didn't have a layout in mind and all the cool nuances and features. That's where the creativity and skillset of Mr McDonough adds tangible value. Talent, however, only goes so far. Tom is the "complete package" as in addition to his creativity he has the other traits you desire for a top notch architect: good communicator, responsive, skilled in construction techniques and professional. A cool additional service is Tom outsourced creation of a set of 3D exterior pictures This was an extra cost but really helped us to visualize what the finished product might look like and caused us to change where to put stone and redetermine window shapes. They've just laid the footings (February, 2015) and so I'll update my review as the house reaches completion.

Tom recently designed our Craftsman house to be built by Jay Jackson. The meetings with Tom were so productive. He gave wonderful suggestions and understood exactly what we wanted. The house is under construction now and looking perfect!
