Working with Ron on a complete re-do of our 32 year old landscaping was a delight. He did a great job of listening to our needs and wishes and incorporating them in his design, and his knowledge of plants and materials was extensive. His ear was attuned to our budget needs as well and he was excellent at acquainting us with the costs upfront. His documentation of all items and costs was detailed. In addition, he was present at installation to monitor work crews, place plants, give advice on maintenance, and make sure watering and lighting were all working as expected. Ron is easy to communicated with and responsive, a true professional.

We had originally hired Ron to redesign our landscaping at our previous home over 20 years ago. We loved the design & style of our previous yards so much. Both of us were very excited when we found Ron & Sandy, & Luxury Outdoor Living, again, in 2017. During the design process Ron listened to our extensive “wish list,” made recommendations, improvements, & many revisions. Ultimately, he came up with a design that checked all of the boxes, & thoughtfully dealt with some issues unique to our lot. And, now the design of the entire property flows together, & there are no dead or forgotten spaces. I especially like how Ron incorporated planted pots in the planters into the landscape design. And, we now love our yards as much at night, if not more, due to the well placed landscape lighting. There are even some lights in some of the pots, & there are no “creepy” dark areas at night anymore. Additionally, we have used our swimming pool more since last summer than we have the 7 previous years we’ve lived here. Our yards are not only beautiful, they are so much more functional, & we enjoy the yards more.

From our first meeting with Ron he had our confidence. His vision and expertise proved to be perfect guides for creating the most aesthetically pleasing and functional landscape possible for our property. We needed infrastructure to retain the 40' rise in our backyard and what we ended up with was incredibly beautiful. We had dreams of being able to grow our own fruits and vegetables and we ended up with both function and beauty in that arena. We wanted a landscape that would welcome and entice our grandchildren and the results clearly support imagination and play. A project of this magnitude takes time and can include challenges regarding supplies and workers, but we would work with this company and do this again in a heartbeat. Ron did a great job designing our backyard. He presented a lot of options and spent the time to review the plans to make sure we were happy with the final design plan. Ron was responsive to our questions and easy to get a hold of, both during the design and construction phase. We were referred to Ron through our pool contractor. We were so fortunate and happy to be able to work with him, especially during a COVID summer. The project went wonderfully smooth. Ron is the best!! His expertise made the design process smooth, easy, and very low stress!! Somehow Ron seemed to be able to read my mind even though I didn’t really know what I wanted for my yard. He even had to change a significant amount of plants unexpectedly due to my husband cutting down some trees; which reduced our shade. Ron made those changes seem effortless (even though I’m sure it wasn’t) and kept the flow and design of the yard beautiful! We hired Ron to design the landscaping on our newly built home. We live in a woodsy area in El Dorado Hills and asked Ron to create a “vibe” that kept with the natural elements, but that felt like a luxurious hotel. Even with a blank slate to work with, I don’t think it’s an easy request. We sent over photos, chatted, and talked about our lifestyle and budget. Our property has slopes and over 72 oak trees, our vision was not an easy design – it could easily become tacky if we used the wrong materials. We had met with other designers, but most of them pushed us towards their ideas and didn’t listen. The other designers offered us “cookie cutter quick” designs that weren’t for us or our semi-custom home. But not for Ron, he developed a design for our home that is more beautiful than we could image. He gave us more that what we envisioned and introduced us to his ideas that would cost a little more up front but save us money in the long run. He was meticulous and thoughtful with his concepts and he listened to to us. He asked us questions about our lifestyle and even advised us against a Jacuzzi spa stating we would get more out of a master bath Jacuzzi tub and then advised us to redirect some of our budget there instead. When our HOA gave us the run around, he was supportive and help us navigate their process. He understands county permitting, drainage and has an impeccable eye for design. He also knows a lot about a lot of different types of materials and their benefits. Our home design is beautiful! We wanted a home where we could spend time as a family and with our friends, a retreat that was in balance with nature and felt peaceful. And that’s want Ron designed.

My husband and I hired Ron Roper to design a backyard landscape for a new house on a little over an acre of land. We had multiple elements that Ron was very successfully in incorporating in his plan. We needed shade for a west facing backyard, low maintenance, clean lines, artificial turf, contemporary design, a natural feel to the rest of the yard that would remain native, and a courtyard that was the showcase of the house interior. One of the most impressive qualities Ron has as an architect is that he listens to the client. Ron brought us several pictures of concepts for us to look at to confirm that we were understanding each other. Ron is meticulous in his design work and knows the materials to use to make the design come to life. He worked to modify or suggest alternatives to elements of the design that we were comfortable with. My husband is very exacting in certain concepts that he required in the design and Ron met those needs with superb execution. We found Ron to be honest, trustworthy, accessible, informative, accurate, humble and absolutely a great person to go along with his architect design skills.

Ron transformed my "backyard" wish into a reality. Working with him was truly a positive and memorable experience. What I valued the most was the fact that he listened attentively to my ideas. He provided recommendations and suggestions which were absolutely valuable for the big project he had at hand. Ron"s upscale level of practical and artistic knowledge are his signature trade mark.
