I originally sought out an interior architect to assist me with the redesign and renovation of an old 1911 country farmhouse in Northern NSW. The house was tired and old yet still retained its original charm. My challenge was how to freshen this house, increase its capacity and improve its ventilation and flow. There was a need to increase its size and develop a new deck for outside living plus add an extra bathroom to make the main bedroom room on suite. The house had a number of add ons from different owners over many years which made the task that much more difficult. This all had to be done with a mindfulness around healthy living and a healthy home that was in balance with the natural setting and conditions of this environment. I came across Lisa Coulburn via a Google search on healthy homes and country living. I was taken by her approach to a healthy lifestyle in the home without excessive costs and complications. Her style appealed to me as I resonated with her natural tones and colours and simple yet elegant design and organic comfort. I found that she had a wealth of experience and was passionate about her commitment to working with healthy materials and that she was focused on a home that would be good on this body. She was engaging to work with and was always open to suggestions or critique. Plus being able to laugh and not taking things too seriously, whilst getting the task done, was a nice trait to work with. Lisa introduced me to many concepts and insights that I was not aware of and or had previously over looked due to either misunderstanding around cost and or time. I came out of this experience with a deeper understanding of what it means to live in a healthy house. The result is a house that we thoroughly enjoy, is functional and feel comfortable in. Importantly I feel we have addressed key health issues and benefits in working this way and that makes my family and I sleep well at night. I highly recommend Lisa to those homes or businesses who want to be educated as to how to build in a healthy manner without it having to blow the budget. It is well worth the time and effort taking into account how much time we spend in these spaces.
